lose the job or lose the interview

I'm currently working full time in corp fin at a F500 and have a final round with a boutique. Since I've taken the time to interview and network, they no longer are cool with me taking any more time off. So its either give up the final round with the boutique or give up the job.

...i think ill give up the job. what would you do?

I'm one of the analysts that was let go during this year's bloodbath.

AlphaholicI'm curious, have you been upfront with the F500? They can't really fault you for "being sick", to the point they fire you, can they? Maybe you could elaborate more on what you've said to them till now.

In hindsight, I should probably have called the day of the interview and claimed to be sick. I've taken time off since I started to continue interviewing up until final rounds when I got rejected. Pretty much used up all my excuses and have pissed off a good amount of senior people. I tried to schedule some flex time a couple of days in advance, but it was not received well.

analyst26bankers work longer than F500 why cant you go in after work? im sure the boutique will work with you

I tried working with the boutique on this. But no luck. Its pretty much the middle of the day or else. And they have other laid off analysts who are in final rounds.

I'm actually just going to cancel the interview. There will be other boutiques.

Just call in sick, or schedule your interview either really late or really early. Don't let the final round pass you by. I know you are anxious about potentially missing more work or whatever -- I was in a similar situation last year -- but at this point you just have to do what you have to do. The more self-conscious you are about things, the more guilty you look. However, if you can convince yourself that you're legitimately sick and play it off like it's no big deal, you'll be fine.

numi hit the nail on the head. I used to work loss prevention catching shoplifters in the mall and what not, and people are as guilty as they make themselves feel. I remember learning how to surveil someone and you want to talk about odd? Stick a 6'1" 250lbs guy in the womens lingerie department and try and fit in. The fact is, if you feel like you belong there no on suspects anything and thieves will steal things at will, a mere 3 feet from you. Instead of just calling in the morning of, maybe stay until the afternoon the day before and let your superior know that you need to jet because you are not feeling well after eating lunch. Leave early that afternoon and then call in early the next morning to let them know you haven't shaken the bug or the food poisoning or whatever. Then put on a good suit and make some moves, make the decision to realize your potential.

Good luck.

in a similar situation man, just keep coming up with new excuses, you gotta just lie to get a day off, you cant give up a job in this environment and you cannot pass on a quality final round

J.K, I'm not sure there is an easy answer. hope it works out for you.

Just curious if you let the boutique know that you have the F500 job? If so, how are they taking the fact that you have been there only few months?
