Major Crossroad: Literally
Hey fellow aspiring/incumbent monkeys,
I have a quick question regarding what major I should choose to best set-up an investment banking gig after I graduate.
For context, I am a sophomore at the University of Southern California "Fight On!" and I am in the Marshall School of Business. I am in their joint Business Admin. & Accounting program, but I am looking into other options. Specifically, I have already completed multivariable calculus and I'm considering the Mathematical Economics or Industrial & Systems Engineering programs.
IB recruiting is pretty tough out of the other schools, although I would still have as much finance course exposure as business majors if I switch out. However, I believe the moderate GPA hit could be worth it in the long-run with a more technical/quant major. Thoughts?

Well, you probably wouldn't be quant enough to be an actual quant by that route. If you want to get in IB, you don't need to be a quant. I don't see the upside.
If you're trying to get into IB just stick to Accounting/Business Admin
no need to get fancy and take unnecessary courses if you dont like it/think you'll follow through in it...but take this with a grain of salt. and keep a 3.5/3.6+ minimum and network
i've seen lots of USC kids on linkedin with boutique/mm internship experience heading into their junior year SA interviews so i'd worry more about your grades/work experience than relevant (or irrelevant) course work since you're already going to be learning accting/finance
