Curious if a subscription to WSJ, NYT, HBR, etc, would ever qualify as a business expense at MBB, or if these kind of resources are available otherwise?
I'm starting st MBB in the fall and just bought an iPad so I was wondering. Thanks.

Hi everyone, just as a follow-up, does anyone know if the top ten BBs offer discounts on Netflix? I think it's something like $7.99/month, but being a thrifty dutchman, I was hoping to knock the cost down by $5-10/year.
Dude, seriously, when you land in industry, WSJ subscription costs will be the least of your concerns. Worst comes to worst, if work requires you to buy a laptop your first year allowing you to hit the 2% AGI floor, you can probably get a business expense deduction for the WSJ.
Your frugal reputation precedes you. For a second there the sarcasm was lost on me (it's been a rough morning).
I'm also trying to better understand how analysts get basic background knowledge about a company/industry (before an engagement starts) -- is it as simple as if my client is Wal-Mart, google-ing Wal-Mart until you have a basic understanding of their business and industry? Or is there a library of resources like you might find at a university, where you have a vast catalog of journals, periodicals, etc., that the firm pays to access?
Thanks for any insight, just curious how this stuff works. I realize I sound cheap asking about expensing $10/month, but hopefully the question is a bit better now.
PRO TIP: the wall street journal is free online. whenever you run into "subscribe to see the rest of the article" just google the article and type the results, and voila full article!
My non-MBB firm allows about $150/year in any publication. I had Economist before, although never had the time to read through it every week, especially with WSJ in conjunction. You can get WSJ for $100/year student subscription that does both paper and online delivery. Given I travel 4 days a week, I generally suspend delivery Tuesday-Thursday and get the paper at the hotel (Marriott chain will deliver at door if you make the choice online, SPG you have to go to lounge or front desk, Hilton doesn't carry WSJ, only FT). This actually extends out your expiration (I am already out to March 2012 and last time I renewed was in 8/2010) and you can still get online throughout.
When I interned at BCG, there was a library (and a full-time researcher) in the office.
