No IBD Job
Hi,
This summer I wil graduate from a semi target business school with a degree in finance. During this year, I was able to secure interviews at JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. I was however not offered a position.
Now that IB recruitment is over in the UK, I will have to look for another type of job outside IB. This does not mean that I do not want to break into investment banking in the future. What type of job would you guys advise to take to get into IB in the near future (think two years)? Going to business school again is not an option. I am thinking of trading with an energy company, big 4 (e.g. FAS at Deloitte), ...

First things first....get a job offer(s) then make this decision
I already have offers from
I already have offers from Deloitte FAS and trading with Shell. I am however worried that taking a role far off from investment banking will destroy my chances of ever getting into a BB firm.
Energy trading at Shell is a
Energy trading at Shell is a legit job. Some would take that over IB
IBD advisory or trading?
IBD advisory or trading? advisory..yeah it will be tough unless you have a really good network but being in a semi-target the network may not be great. If you mean IBD trading then by all means take the shell job.
Network, Network, Network
Network, Network, Network
Good is the enemy of Great
Deloitte FAS will set you up
Deloitte FAS will set you up very well for IB.
People realize investment banks are cutting back on hiring, and firms like Deloitte and some of the other Big 4 with M&A practice is picking up talent left and right.
No shame on taking the FAS role, in fact, it will set you up better than most Corp. Dev. roles.
I would have taken tradaing
I would have taken tradaing for shell over my current job in a heartbeat. This assumes you have what it takes to actually be a successful trader
