This logically seems that a thread like this would be posted weekly, but I haven't found a recent good finance-book recommendation thread as of yet so here's one to ponder over.
What economics/finance book should I read? (Originally Posted: 03/04/2011)
I am looking for a book that will better my ability to interpret/analyze articles in The Economist or The WSJ. Any suggestions?
I just finished Economics in One Simple Lesson, which I read upon Braverman's recommendation (Thanks Eddie), it was good but more about general theory than specific macroeconomic data.
read david rosenberg's daily newsletter
not a book but over time it will give you a much better idea of what is going on than the wsj, which gives it to you in bits and pieces
Recommendations for finance books (Originally Posted: 02/15/2013)
Hey guys,
With recruiting over, I'm turning my attention to reading a little more. Does anyone have any recommendations on the top finance books to read? Specifically, are there any books regarding IB and M&A in particular? Most of the books that I can think of (apart from Monkey Business) seem to be about trading/hedge funds/etc.
Aswath Damodaran's Investment Valuation is very good. It helps to know general finance first or have read and comprehended the Vault guide at the very least. It is not that tough of a read and he does a great job of explaining some intricacies in valuation. His website is also great. I'm a little biased though.
I wanted to hear about some good recommendations for finance books. I'm starting as a full time analyst in July and would like to do some reading that might help further prepare me before I start. I've read the Vault Guide, Barbarians at the Gate, Monkey Business, Liar's Poker, The Little Book that Beats the Market and and The Essays of Warren Buffett. I wanted to see what other recommendations anyone had. If anyone as read any of the following or has other recommendations, I'd appreciate some feedback:
The poster in this thread mentioned a book called ScoopBooks - The Practitioner's Guide to Investment Banking & Mergers & Acquisitions. Does anyone know: is this book commonly handed out to incoming analysts?

This book is probably the best book on Investment banking by far. It is written by a couple of people that worked for JP Morgan, and the book is very comprehensive. I am on the Chapter where it gets in to how to do a lbo model. I highly recommend the book, and it says practioner's guide for a reason(It is written by practitioners.) The book is very well written, and from it, you will get a list of some more great books to get into. I have have ordered 2 books that they recommended in the appendix.
Its kind of expensive, but definitely worth the investment

This one is the standard recommendation for learning valuation/modeling:

Some more enjoyable reading around finance and investment banking: Liar's Poker Barbarians at the Gate Predator's Ball Street Freak Monkey Business The Big Short Too Big to Fail
probably recommend they master the art of the wso search engine before reading anything
No offense but please use the search function. This topic has been covered many times.
Edit: ^ you beat me to it by seconds
You should use the search but here's a couple that don't make many of those lists: The Quants Trend Following The Way of the Turtle
All a little quirky but good reads.
There's a reason why the "Recommended Readings" in the FAQ section of this site exists.
.
King of Capital. Halfway through and its awesome. It is the story of Blackstone and buyout firms from the ground up...pretty good read.

Here are some books that I can think of off the top of my head: - Liar's Poker - Monkey Business - Too Big To Fail - Barbarians at the Gate - More Money Than God - When Genius Failed - The Big Short
The Ascent of Money- not M&A, but general financial history
Capital Ideas - nice historical discussion of the finance concepts you already know
King of Capital
Investment banking- Rosenbaum

Can anyone list the best finance textbooks?
Generally speaking for M&A, Corporate Finance, Derivatives, et cetera.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Options - Natenberg followed by Hull
corporate finance - Damodaran is good, Titman is good, Ross/Westerfield/Jaffe is basic but good
portfolio management- Reilly/Brown
the bible for derivatives: 'Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives' by John Hull.
Fabozzi for Bonds.
Any good books specializing in munis or does that fall under Fabozzi too?
thanks for the suggestions
Basically, CFA curriculum consists of the very high quality books
What are the best books for equity research?
Hull's book is by far the best for derivatives.
