Willing to Network?
Hello, everyone.
If anyone is willing to network with me/help me network I would really appreciate it. I am a rising senior and full-time apps/interviews are just around the corner. I am pretty stressed about it all and would honestly value and appreciate any and all help.
About me:
Non-Target, 3.87 Finance GPA, relevant M&A internship where I have learned CapIQ, modeling, FactSet, Hoovers, VBA, the M&A process and more.
The internship showed me that I am both capable and interested in being an analyst. Unfortunately, my school has virtually zero placement into IB due to the majority of students aiming for F500 jobs. OCR has not been much help and I've only managed to get in contact with two BB and three MM boutiques on my own.
Please let me know if you think you could give me some tips, introduce me to someone, or even talk with me about where you work and what the culture is like. I would be extremely grateful.
Best Regards.
I would say try using alumni book / linked in for alum. Even though your a non-target you should have a few people out there. Also read the mergers & inquisitions guides for networking/reaching out.
Be humble and appreciative of everyone's time as well.
May have some advice - PM me with some details. What happened with the place where you interned?
I can't personally network you directly to companies, but I do know some good techniques coming from a non-target/average GPA. PM me if you have any questions.
Out of curiosity, how much does having SA who get offers vouching for you help in FT recruiting at the typical BB?
I would like the answer to this too, monkeyc. I think it might be more of a situation where knowing an SA, or really anyone, helps get your resume and recommendations to the like right person instead of the blackhole of online applications. I'm not sure though since I haven't worked long in banking nor am I at a BB.

Damn, I saw this as soon as I posted my own, very similar topic. I am in a similar situation, except that I'm at a target with a much lower gpa.
I feel for you, the paradox. Hope it all works out. I think our situations will both come down to networking.
