Have done IB internship sophomore summer, nothing freshman year, looking for a good SA position. I've heard externships don't help but would a name like Blackstone be strong enough to make it worth something? I'm from Philadelphia so would have to travel to New York so just trying to see if there is an actual benefit
..it's worth it for the contacts you'll make
i did something similar to this way back when I was starting out. i shadowed a few traders and ultimately ended up getting interviewed that day.
a week is pretty long in my opinion. a day should do it (more like 9am to 1pm).
How do I throw monkey shit at people?
Why wouldn't it be worth it? You get the contacts. That makes it worth it.
Group I'll be in doesn't take interns or full-time for undergrad; won't really have chance to network with other groups. contacts might help 5-10 years down the line but is it worth it to go so far just for that. Is it impressive enough on a resume to travel that far and live there for a week>

Why in the world would they let you shadow them then? Public service? They probably told you "no interns" so you wouldn't get your expectations up. If they see that you are really smart they might reconsider or at least forward your resume to another group that accepts interns. Either way, it can't hurt.
Do you have any friends in NYC who could offer you a place to crash? Otherwise look at CL for 1-week rentals.
That's not resume material, but the boost to your rolodex seems worth it.
