Two JP Morgan Internship Offers.. Help!

Hi WSO,

I am currently sitting on two offers for next summer. I am currently a junior in college so this will my summer going into senior year.

The first offer is within JPM. It is in their Alternate Assets group (JPMAAM) and with their Hedge Fund Solutions Group. I will be working in a CPM (Client Portfolio Manager) role.

The second offer is within JPM's Investor Services Group and I will be in a sales role.

Thank you in advance.

If i were you (wanting to end up in those big 4 consulting firms) Id go to investor services. Seems a lot more related. Also I messaged you for some other questions!

Best Response

First, JPM is a great name which will look good for MBB recruiting regardless of which of the two departments you choose. Not knowing the departments' strengths and weaknesses, I will let others talk about it in depth.

Second, I like the Global Investment Management position since it offers a good blend of client-facing and analytics (from what I understand). Also, it could give you a more business-oriented perspective on issues compared to a pure sales perspective. Although both are good, sales skills become more relevant later in consulting, so I would focus on business/analytical skills.

(Don't get me wrong; there are great consultants with strong sales backgrounds.)
