boutique is bribing ME!?

So last night I got a weird message on linkedin from a director of who asked me to potentially join his firm.

I've never met him, don't know him at all. I just added him because he is an alum at my school. I updated my resume on linkedin last night and so I assumed it showed up on his linkedin news feed and he took a look.

The guy is legit, he has taken kids from my school many times before and is very high up at a boutique. He's in plenty of new articles and donates to my school all the time, which is a non-target. It's for an ER position.

what really gets confused me though is that he is bribing me with promises to brand name internships in the future after complimenting me about how smart I am. WTF? why would someone this high up ever do this?

so what do I do? He gave me his direct phone number so I will call. But what should I expect? lol

what probably caught his eye on my resume is some graduate level math courses I took (which I honestly forgot right after I finished them)

a ton of people would want this opportunity, consider it good fortune and take advantage of your opportunity. Similar happened to me at a BB, I had mediocre at best math and analytical skills and a MD in the IB really liked my work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset so he got me in the door....sometimes a little luck is all you need.

its one way or the other: hate me or admire.

Wow, talk about winning the lottery. If you can't accept that, then who knows, maybe he's trying to get in your pants. Either way, getting recruited from a high level means you're doing a whole lot of something right.

Way to go!

It means you're a strong free-agent this season, congrats.

In general, I've only ever heard of stuff like this for people who already have an offer at another big-name firm. Is this the case for you?

I don't have any other good offers.

So I spoke to him and he asked me to write a quick 2 page equity research report for him. I've never done this before, any tips as I bang this out for Friday?
