SuitSupply NYC Review
Anyone tried SuitSupply? They seem to have nice slim cut suits for a decent price.
What is SuitSupply?
SuitSupply is a vertically integrated suit supplier that has been lauded for making quality suits and offering them at affordable prices.
GQ reviewed the company by saying:
Suitsupply, the vertically integrated one-stop suit supplier, wants to make looking your best painless. That's why they put tailors right smack dab in the middle of their stores, handling basic alterations while you wait and anything more complicated within three days, guaranteed.
Suit Supply suits are far and away the best bang-for-your-buck you're going to find in New York. Stick with their conservative cuts, though. Nobody likes analysts who look like Chelsea boys.
However, user @Bondarb", a hedge fund partner, shared a mixed review of their experience:
I dropped by the SuitSupply store in Soho last week because I have been hearing alot of good stuff about them. I think they have a lot of cool stuff for decent prices..ie good double monk strap shoes for like $250 and some pretty cool scarves under 100 bucks. However, I wasn’t that impressed with the suit quality...also they are more fashion suits then business suits. That's fine for me because I only wear suits occasionally when I go out, but not sure you guys want to build a business wardrobe there. But overall cool place worth checking out.
SuitSupply Fit Guide - Napoli
When considering what cut to purchase, the Napoli cut (featured below) was the most referenced by our users for work purposes. Users appreciated its quality and cut.

Napoli is a great option. As I said in another post, for the price I have found it to be of very high quality/value. As I also noted, tell the tailor that you are looking to be relatively conservative as they tend to be more fashion forward. They suggested that I have minimal to no break and basically show an inch of sock.
Ordered a Napoli this weekend and picked it up today. When fitting for the tailoring just let them know what the purpose is for and they should know that you want to be more conservative. Thoroughly satisfied with the fit, service, and experience. Definitely will be back for more.

Never heard of them.
I've heard that H&M, TopMan and Uniqlo have good suits for a cheap price though.
They're a Dutch company with a swanky decor and an intriguing business model. I have never met anyone dissapointed with what they sell, but just because they have a shop on Saville Row, doesn't mean that you're going to get Saville quality.
WSJ included them in an article about suit quality last year. They were quite complimentary...
"Both testers said the $614 Suitsupply suit matched the $3,625 Armani in quality. Both saw little difference in quality between the two, or at least not enough to justify a $3,000 difference in price. Each is made with soft Italian fabric and showed the maker cared about details like pockets with extra stitching at their edges."

Definitely incredible value and hard to beat in that price bracket.

Take a nosedive into this book by Esquire: The Handbook of Style: A Man's Guide to Looking Good
Each chapter delineates a distinct category of men's style (footwear, suits, shirts, pants, outerwear, etc.) and then outlines a 5-7 shops/sites that offer premium quality items from $ to $$$$.
Solid read, dudes.
I am a fan of Suitsupply. I have a number of their suits in more conservative cuts (Napoli) and they're a good buy for the money (e.g., compared to Boss suits which are comparable $$$s). The lower-end models are still half canvas.
@How about Sienna?
I don't have any Siennas... I've got a number of Napolis and one La Spalla. I don't care for the ticket pocket, and the price point is roughly 33-50% higher than Napoli (fine level of quality for a workhorse suit that gets beat up with travel).
The Lazio is also a decent choice if you've got a slimmer frame compared to the Napoli.
As an aside, I just bought an Indochino suit that fits incredibly well... maybe not as quality as suit supply (though I like the material), but it looks and fits great.
Suit Supply is by far the best bang for your buck for off the rack.
Anybody have an opinion of their "York" cut? How well would this do in a business setting?
awesome that is all
I just got a suitsupply lazio cut and I think the quality and cut are both great. One part I like are the working cuffs. Some think they are gimmicky, but they seem like a nice touch. I want to get the $399 double monk strap brown shoes they have soon.
Most Conservative SuitSupply Fit (Originally Posted: 06/10/2014)
I am starting full-time in a few weeks and have been browsing through different places for a good pair of suits (SuitSupply, Indochino, BlackLapel, etc.). I believe that SuitSupply will give me the best deal for a good quality, and there is a store located in my city. My question is which one of their many fits is the most business professional and conservative for working at my IB office? From other threads, I am leaning towards to Napoli but want more opinions or advice about other fits that may work. Thanks.
Buy whatever suits your body best and don't get any obnoxious patterns.
I have worn the Napoli for many different occasions; weddings, interviews, networking events, etc. I always get compliments on the fit and the high quality look. That's my .02.
I just picked up the charcoal Napoli last week and it looks great. Fitted but still conservative. My biggest gripe was that the 38L jacket fit me slightly better than the 40, but I needed the pants with the 40 and you can't combine the solid colors. Bummer.
Napoli fit. Start with Navy and charcoal

@junkbondswap: I don't think I'd show an inch of sock. If I'm imagining correctly, that's high water.

Suits: Custom (MySuit, SuitSupply,Mr.Ned) or Bloomingdales? (Originally Posted: 06/18/2014)
Costs aside, which would you say is better for an analyst? I am very aware that the fit of a suit is important, which is why I am interested in going to the aforementioned custom suit shops. However, I am worried about the quality and durability of custom suits made at these suit shops. I was thinking getting some suites at Bloomingdales and getting them tailored to fit better. Obviously, the custom suit shops I mentioned would come out to be much cheaper but I am willing to forgo the costs for a better quality suit that will last longer and keep its quality overtime.
What do you guys suggest? If custom, feel free to suggest which shop you recc.
IIRC, Suit Supply is half canvassed and would suggest that for an analyst. Most designer brands (not all, but most in the low tier range) have fused jackets, which may work well for you in the short run, but certainly not in the future.
I don't want to give off the wrong impression as an analyst. If I got Zegna's..would people be able to tell? If so, do you think it would give off the wrong impression? I'd appreciate the honest info.
Had one that I used for interviews and it fit me great.
As long as it fits and it isn't a distinct color, then no one will notice your suit.
Just don't make a big deal about the fact that your suit is a Zegna, don't try to name-drop, etc. and nobody will notice. If it fits and is an appropriate cut and color, then it is fine (if you don't mind grinding the shit out of a zegna suit by sitting on it for 80 hours a week anyway).
Curious- SuitSupply vs MySuit? Leaning more towards SuitSupply
Mr. Ned is by far the best option of the ones listed. I'd also suggest Franco Ercole, but that might be stretching your budget a bit.
How much would I expect to spend per suit at Franco Ercole?
Bespoke suits start at $2,500, but made-to-measure starts lower at around $1,000 if I recall correctly.
For a better fit bespoke is the best option, right fit, color and fabric that's all that matter if price point is not a big deal, try custom made from high end makers, from above mentioned choices go with Suit supply, particularly if you can get to one of their stores.Their tailoring is super cheap compared to an off the site tailor and they can accommodate certain builds.
SuitSupply Suit. Is it too shiny? (Originally Posted: 06/19/2014)
In the market for a new suit as I am starting my MBA next month and will be participating in the banking recruiting.
I really like the SuitSupply's Napoli Navy Plain but not sure if the color is appropriate for interviews/informational or just too shiny? What do you guys think?
The other option is London Blue plain which has less of a shine.
I think several people here have bought the navy Napoli on here and have had good luck with them. Doubt they would be as popular as they are if they were inappropriate for the workplace in any way.
Might be just the lighting. Go for it!
I have that suit, and shiny isn't an adjective I'd use to describe it. Have you seen it in person or are you going based off the website? The pics on the website have some funky filter on them.
I own that suit but mostly for social events where I know I will get shit spilled on me (weddings, closing dinners / after-parties, etc.). The quality, fit, and appearance are excellent at that price point and definitely suitable for recruiting/office. The tailors there are a bit fashion forward so be careful with the pant length and break.
Thanks guys.
@chron3k: I have not seen the suit in real life, so I think the picture might be deceiving. I will drive to their NYC store this weekend to purchase it.
Suitsupply vs. My.Suit (Originally Posted: 02/23/2015)
Has anyone used Suitsupply or My.Suit in NYC? What are your thoughts on quality/fit/value?
My suit isn't that good. Really just cheaper suits from overseas that they tailor and make it seem like its custom made. They maybe put a lining inside or whatever. Its not what you think.
That is suit supply you are referring to. MySuit is made-to-measure fully custom. It is also made in Mexico and not overseas.
I've had pretty good success with SuitSupply, but you can't order separate sized jackets and pants, so if you've got a more athletic build you'll probably have to get the suit tailored.
True but SS does offer bespoke services that actually aren't that expensive, which allowed me to get different size pants/jacket. Ever OTR suit needs to be tailored.
I at least partially disagree about My.Suit. The most important thing is that a suit fits well, and My.Suit takes lots of measurements and gives you a suit that fits. You can get higher quality elsewhere, but a high quality suit that doesn't fit looks sloppy. Another good thing about My.Suit is that they store your measurements with your online profile so you can very easily order more suits that fit just as well as the first.

seems legit
I love the fit of my SS bespoke. It's not actually true bespoke, but whatever their higher end line is - it's like $900 or something. But totally worth it for someone like me that has a hard time with off the rack stuff.
I've ordered a few suits from My.Suit, and I actually disagree. I think you get a decent quality fabric (and you can pay up for the nicer ones if you desire), and the fit is fantastic. Further, in my limited experience with SuitSupply it's a bit harder to find a suit that is work appropriate as their stuff tends to be a little more trendy / flashier. Not to say you can't find it, but your options might be more limited whereas at My.Suit you can literally customize everything.
Overall, tough to beat a custom fit suit for ~$650.
This is definitely all preference. I just haven't liked what I saw at my.suit, but some people like it. Suit supply is ok... never bought a suit from them but I've been in the store. I usually just wait for a sale when Charles Tyrwhitt comes around. I can get a relatively nice suit for around $300 at times there. In the $300-$600 range these are all very similar. The differences are only marginal IMO.
I honestly don't have the money yet to get the suits I would like the most. Paul Stuart is a fav I would get even if I was 20 years down the road in my career. But hey, thats another discussion.
Suitsupply is great, currently have 3 suits from them and will buy my next there as well
I got a made to measure suit at suit supply. No complaints. Have had it for 4 years and still going strong. Granted, I don't wear it everyday or anything.
