Recently got interested in banking...go kill my resume and tell me what I need to improve so that i'll do it
http://www.razume.com/doc/3/0ec2ccc1-10c2-4b25-8d…
I have a pretty bad gpa right now, I've messed up both fall semesters [Mono freshman year and surgery sphomore year in the middle of them], my spring semesters have been much better overall
plus I did not have any focus until recently,
I don't really have any experience in a bank or anything like that. I have a friend who keeps asking me if I wanted an internship at JP Morgan...he could connect me to that'
but I would rather use that as a later resort. How is my application overall?
I prefer rational but tough feedback
Edit: why would you want to wait to use a BB internship as the last resort? That should be your first choice.
Your GPA is low enough to kill your application. Since it's one of the first things they see, they'll probably chuck your resume in the trash as soon as they see that 3.0.
Find out more about the opportunity at JP - a referral can get you get around the GPA issue.
Ayn Rand under interests? Really?
Should use friends connection as option 1,2,3.....Best way to find a job in this industry is network and contacts, use it.
Identifying yourself politically is very risky. I'd remove the Rand reference. Plus isn't she sort of against financiers?
Go get a job at a railroad. If you work hard you'll be running it in no time from what I've learned from Ayn.
Ukelele dawg!!! YEAH!!!! and objectivism!!!
I actually like your profile, you seem to have some interesting experiences and a good background, but like others have said you really need to pull up your GPA, even if you are a math major (aim for at least a 3.5).
Take off photoshop / office in skills, remove ayn rand, and tighten up your minor / concentration, which makes almost no sense.
You are an economics / math major at a top 20 with a minor in engineering management and you're pre-med? It just doesn't compute. Stick with econ or math or go with pre-med, if you try doing both your GPA is just going to get sunk.
It's amazing how every single person on this website with less than a 3.5 is that way because of surgery, some prolonged illness, losing a limb, etc.
The least helpful suggestion thus far: I think you meant to type "National Institutes of Health"-- notice the plural form.
You're GPA is to low if you want any shot at banking unless you NETWORK and have contacts. Use your friend who is willing to connect you with JP Morgan, especially if you have a shot at IB or any other front office role through him. This could be a game changer.
Regarding your resume: * What's with indenting the bullet points for your first and second experience. Make it all align, it's really irritating. * Your second experience is cramped between the date and the job title so my suggestion is just reduce the job title to executive board vice president. * Self-study bullet point in education should not be listed there in my opinion. * Keep your interest at one line. I just read it as you are trying to over impress someone. Choose a few and keep it nice and simple * I think its great that you always tried to show results and numbers when possible in your work experience cause bankers who are reading love that. Try getting some banking related experience ASAP though and you should do well. * Get the GPA higher, study hard and unless you were seriously destroyed by sickness and surgery don't use it as an excuse. Work hard and don't look back.
All the best.
Definitely get rid of Ayn Rand/objectivism. I'd ding you just for that. Try to stay clear of any overt displays of your beliefs, especially on your resume, since people might view them in place of qualifications.
