5 Ways Men are Trained to Hate Women

http://www.cracked.com/article_19785_5-ways-moder…

This is an extremely well-written piece on Cracked - authored by a man - about some of the ridiculous ways modern men treat and perceive women. While I think using "Hate" in the title is too strong ("resent" is probably a little more appropriate), some of these topics really struck a chord. "We are Trained from Birth to See You As a Decoration" and "Feeling that our Manhood was Stolen From Us", were my favorites. "Feeling Powerless" was pretty disturbing because of its dead-on accuracy.

Anyhow, most dudes on WSO have probably been guilty of being chauvinist dicks on the forums at one point or another (myself included). Wondering what you Monkeys think....

...and when's man week? I miss that shit.

I was at the gym the other day. After a particularly hard set, I asked myself "Am I doing this b/c I want to be healthful and live longer or do I want a ripped body to peacock?"

- Bulls make money. Bears make money. Pigs get slaughtered. - The harder you work, the luckier you become. - I believe in the "Golden Rule": the man with the gold rules.

I definitely see some truth in this article.

I'll add to it: women complain about the unrealistic expectations men have about their appearances. But women all want a guy who is 6'3", ripped, holds an important/interesting job, and somehow has time for them. I don't blame them for wanting that, but these expectations are arguably more unreasonable that those men have of women.

This article is perfect, thanks for posting this.

I read parts of the article and your post to my gf; she said her expectations come from watching Disney movies where every girl gets a prince... my expectations are disturbingly unwholesome by comparison.

i dont have a problem with doing any of that

I eat success for breakfast...with skim milk

^^^ i agree that women's expectations of mates can be equally as shallow or unreasonable as males.

what i think this article really hits on is what we expect ALL women to look good, regardless of their stature or importance. women, for example, wont look at a male scientist or dignitary and bash him for not being some sort of a sex symbol. however, men will ALWAYS judge a woman based on their appearance (think Hillary Clinton or Elena Kagan)... women have the secondary duty to be a "decoration".

This article is pretty much true?? Guys consciously think these things? Wait, do guys think like this when they're younger but grow out of it later? Or are there any of these that aren't really true??

Haha I want to know more, this blows my mind

not 100%, but i think a lot of it is true:

-no, i don't think i am "owed" a hot girl... though a majority men do. that's why you see a lot of dudes getting pissed and calling girls "bitches" when they get rejected and never want to blame themselves. -i absolutely DO NOT believe that women are "consipiring with my boner" to screw me over. but there are certainly men out there who do (just look at some Islamic countries....) -in terms of viewing women as decorations... i must admit, i've come to expect women of stature to be attractive... example: i was watching a video lecture for a finance class that was being taught by a very unnattractive woman with extremely large breasts (think of a troll from Lord of the Rings with tits). not gonna lie, i was very distracted and disturbed, even though she was an EXCELLENT teacher -the thing about the sex drive is unfortunately pretty accurate. i don't always think about sex, but i am constantly aware of my sex drive...

Eh, it's a pretty beta article overall... I missed the point where he talked about the quality of prepared sandwiches over the years since the 1950s.

I don't see anything wrong with the paradigm of feeling that you deserve beautiful women. In fact, most of the problems in our society stem not from the fact that men want or deserve beautiful women, but rather because they don't take the proper measures to secure that reality. Women should want to be beautiful. I have no issues with women being successful and wanting to pursue interests and be mildly independent, but the women's lib movement has done more to destroy relations between our sexes than any single other factor.

The root issue, at least in my belief, which causes most problems in life is insecurity. Men lash out at women because they are insecure, women want to be validated because they are insecure, but I guess I'm just not sold on women having it that tough in our society. It's WOMEN'S magazines, run by WOMEN that have done way more to damage body image in our country than MEN. Most guys I talk to don't give a shit if a girl is a size 0, or a 2, or a 6... Hot is hot. Women are constantly trying to buy into ideals that MEN aren't even holding them to.

The whole article just reeks of neediness and lack of confidence. It is looking for excuses to blame for an issue. Men are "Trained to Hate Women?" Get the fuck out of here. Men are trained to love women... women, when they are affectionate and playful and sexy are hands down the absolute best thing that ever happened to Men. The issue is that they too come across as needy and insecure and use bullshit shit tests, impossible standards, and artificial depictions of what a "man" should be that were spoon-fed to them by Hollywood, romance novels, and daytime TV.

What this article does not address is that attractiveness is multifaceted. I mean seriously... who is the pussy who wrote this article... how whiny does the following sound, "We were told this by every movie, TV show, novel, comic book, video game and song we encountered...Neo saves the world and is awarded Trinity. Marty McFly gets his dream girl, John McClane gets his ex-wife back, Keanu "Speed" Reeves gets Sandra Bullock, etc?" Are you REALLY going to tell me that you have an issue with the fact that men in movies are rewarded for feats of courage, leadership, confidence, and toughness? What the fuck are you looking for in a man then ladies? You really think that guys who display these qualities shouldn't get the girl? IF THAT is the case, then you are conditioning yourself to attract men of low quality. Quite frankly, the author is just delusional... Do you really want to live in a world where the hero doesn't get the girl? He makes it sound as if the woman has no choice in the matter... hmmm that could be... OR, it could be because the hero is attractive because he saved the fucking world. That girl can pick whoever the fuck she wants, but she's gonna pick the hero because he's the best option... to be honest, I almost stopped reading when I saw that the author was "David Wong" that was a bit of a red-flag, but then as the article began to convey more and more neediness I had to keep reading because I needed to actually wrap my head around the bullshit neurosis and psychoanalysis this guy had woven into his tired-ass diatribe.

Listen dude, it's clear that you aren't having the relationships and connections that you want with women, otherwise you wouldn't be writing that article... BOOM. I'm not saying that I always do, or even that I do as often as I would like, but I know for sure that I don't need to write some weak-ass effeminate manifesto to hopefully win some brownie points with women. The funny thing here is that women will read this article and on the surface will agree with you and give you some superfluous pat on the back and say "God why can't all men be like this?"

And then they will go sleep with John Mclane. You want to be a Steve in life... not a Stew...

We aren't trained to hate women, women are just finding superficial empowerment by attacking our current paradigm, rather than working on themselves. But before you call me sexist, guys are suffering from the same shortcomings.

It's much easier to shift the focus and deflect than it is to take an honest look at ones self and say "Hey, maybe I am too emotionally invested and I chase after women a little too much... maybe I should start trying to live a life of abundance so that I have options" or "Maybe when guys say things I perceive to be chauvinistic, it would be way more of a turn on and make me so much sexier to them if I just gave them shit back."

very well put. except you missed the entire point.

the author points out that guys get the girls at the end of the movie.... there's nothing wrong with that. the problem arises when every nice-guy schmuck watches these movies and feels entitled to hot women. and when they don't get what they want, they resort to calling women "sluts", "whores", "bitches" etc...

Sounds like both you and the author share a disdain for insecure, needy "nice-guys".
