Reaching out directly to HR
Analyst looking to lateral to a different market here; I applied to a job about a month ago and when I check the application status it says "not reviewed." I wanted to sort of poke HR to make sure they've looked at my resume. I have the company HR director's e-mail - does anybody have advice as how to approach this/what to say?
Your best bet is to just send a polite email, something along the lines of
Hi xxx,
I just wanted to follow up to see if there was any interest in my resume. I'd be happy to answer any questions.
Best, xxx
Email the hr director and ask for an interview.
Have you spoken to this HR person before? You applied to the job on an app system? Was anyone referring you or was this just a job you applied for?
Best bet is if someone was referring you, have them contact HR.
If not, then you could send an email to HR director, but I can guarantee that director has never heard of you and is not involved in any recruiting, so it's more a waste of time than anything.

Hypothetical scenario: Applying for either PE / BB /HF: application for an internship, it was forwarded to them by one of the PMs.
Received notice that HR received CV, as they told me they received it via personal / not computer generated email.
How long should one wait before contacting the HR department? To wait or not?
Id adviced her that quick action is a good thing.

LOL! Have you ever dealt with HR at a bank before? Good luck catching them on a Friday before Memorial Day.
Whenever I call HR I don't even know what I really want to ask them because they never answer. All I do is prepare a short message that I want to leave on their voice-mail, because I know that I have at least 24 hours to come up with the questions that I really want to ask.

So my friend recently applied for a job at a BB. She was sent the link by a friend who worked at the bank through the 'recommend this job to a friend' function. He also managed to find out who the HR director in charge of the recruitment is and her contact info.
So how should she contact this lady? What should she say? What is the protocol? Should she wait to see if they want to contact her or should she reach out to them first? (Its been 2 days)
Also anyone know of success stories through this?

Haha. Just approach it politely and tell her that her friend suggested her for a position and that she is now contacting the HR lady. Make sure she attaches her CV and Cover Letter to the email along with a polite introduction to herself and how she should proceed.

I applied for a position that was posted on my school's job board. The HR employee left her name, phone number and email in the job posting. Is it okay to call her - I just want to say that I applied for the position and a little about myself to convince the recruiter that I am a good candidate. Is it okay to do so? I want to be proactive but I also don't want to be annoying. Also, what can I do or say to improve my chances?
