Buying Physical Gold

Anyone have any experience with this. Best way to go about doing this? Sites, etc.

I'm looking for the lowest price over spot I can drive to. Looks like Credit Suisse bars are the best way to go, but you guys might have better suggestions.

Anything where I could pay in cash would be optimal. No need for a record or anything.

I am looking at this. I've been interested in gold coins since I was a kid. I can remember Gold at $300 an oz and wanted to start buying American Eagles at that point. Baby Jesus, WHYYYYYYYYYYY didn't I do it.

Whatever. You can really dial in your level of gold bug. You don't need to pony up and get a full oz. You can get smaller increments and build up. I'm thinking about a mixture, including silver in that mix.

IMO, with every central bank just printing left and right and China moving towards cutting the USD out of things I think you will eventually see a real crisis here. There is zero political will to make any attempt at correcting things and we are already seeing the first glimpses of Obamacare coming in over budgeted estimates. $20T in debt (at least) when Obama is gone and who knows what else.

Not looking to have ingots under my bed, but people are craving a hard currency. Always good to have a little bit of this.

my uncle used to put up ads on craigslist for buying gold (in whatever form) with cash, seemed to work pretty well for him (he had some experience in the field; knew how to judge carat count, fakes, quality etc)

TNAHandguns are too much of a liability and too easy to track. I'd simply buy a hunting rifle and modify the stock. Or an M4.

You're obviously not in Florida lol

Educate me in the ways my friend. My aunt lives there. I want to go there or Texas, the tax advantage is just too much. I hate taxes.

Have a 1 oz eagle I would be willing to part ways with...

I know this is old, but I'd like to BUMP.

I'm looking to take some of my savings and get a few ounces. Seems like a good time with stocks at all time highs and gold not too high relative to the last few years. Has anyone actually bought physical gold online? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't buy paper stake in a gold store house. Even if they actually say you "own" the gold it is very likely that it has been sold to someone else at some point in time. You are much better off going to a local gold dealer and paying a bit more and getting the actual physical gold. The market has become so tight that those little shops have very tight margins. You don't want to be left holding an empty bag if shit hits the fan with the company you bought it from.

@"heister" Yea - I'm only interested in having the physical gold in my home. Just trying to figure out whats the best method.

If I buy from a local gold seller/jeweler wouldn't I have to pay sales tax? If I pay cash/check I'm sure they'ed work with me on it but just trying to figure this out...

You will likely have to pay sales tax even online as in most states require that now. I always use the local shops mainly because I can pay cash for it and not have to worry about filling out any pesky paper work. If the government ever tries to confiscate gold again because people are using it at a high rate in business and trade I can always say, nothing to see here folks... Plus you can usually get them down a percent or two if you don't use a CC.
