Do I have any luck getting into IB? Here are my..

Hi,

I am a rising senior at a non-target school. My GPA is below a 3.4 but above 3.0. I'm interning at a small firm in RMBS/CDO. I want to get into S&T. Do I have any luck getting into S&T straight outta college?? Please comment. Thank you.

I can't speak to your luck, but as for your chances, it sounds like you're getting good experience and will have something substantive to talk about in an interview. The problem is getting anyone to see your resume in the first place, and not having and HR person look at the GPA and toss it immediately. i.e. MAKE CONNECTIONS. Talk to your bosses. Chances are they started out a bigger firm and will still have friends there. That's really your only chance for the BBs from a non target. And it will still be tough with that GPA. I say shoot for a MM job or get a grad degree in Math or Physics. Get an advanced degree in that shit and you're money baby!

Hi TooLeveraged (nice sn),

Thanks for that input. You have no idea what that GPA does to me!! Yea i was fucking around until junior year and it hit me. It's because of my GPA that I couldn't get into a lot of career programs. I had an S&T summer interview at a BB and it was because I knew the S&T recruiter. I didn't get it bc she said I asked the wrong questions and so she didn't see a 'fit'. I worked my ass off to get an SEO final interview but didn't get in.

A lot of the senior people at my current firm did IB structured finance at BBs. I need to network more....
