Don't sweat it

Fellow street-heads,

I want to share my recent out of the norm experience with some of you guys who are out there still waiting to hear back from banks.

About two weeks prior to this past holiday I interviewed for an analyst position at an IB (think Guggenheim, Oppenheimer, Piper Jaffary). After my final interview I did the routine follow up with HR and sent thank you emails to all 11 of the people I interviewed with. A week flew by while I anxiously waited for a call or email from anyone at the bank.. nothing. At the start of the second week without a single response,

I followed up again with the HR rep. Another week flew by and.. nothing. At this point, I figured I did not get the job and I began doing what anyone else in my situation would do, start the process all over again by applying to more banks. Yesterday, more than three weeks later, I get a call after work from the HR rep telling me that I got the job.

Moral of this short story - if you are still waiting to hear back and a more than a week has gone by .. please don't sweat it.

Good luck to those currently looking for jobs.

Cheers,

Paul

Congratulations - this is obviously great news. But I think it's important to note that your story is definitely the exception rather than the norm. Those who don't hear within 7-10 days max are often on the waitlist, and 98% of the time that means no offer, especially in this economy where the acceptance to offer ratio is higher than ever given the recruiting environment.

Yeah, this isn't normal. This may be a heart-warming story, but it is unusual.

When a plumber from Hoboken tells you he has a good feeling about a reverse iron condor spread on the Japanese Yen, you really have no choice. If you don’t do it to him, somebody else surely will. -Eddie B.

More likely you weren't their first choice and they were waiting for the other candidate to get back to them. And after he made his decision (turned down the offer) they contacted you

You are definitely lucky. Congratulations. But holidays probably played part in the wait. It's been 3 weeks and I am yet to hear back from a company. I don't think I would get it though. I think I screwed up the interview :(

Congrats man. This is definitely rare from what i experienced, at least this last FT recruitment, but you got it nonetheless!!! Awesome :)
