Escape from Witch Mountain (GS TMT/FIG)

After much urging from the board (*cough* Marcus Hallerberstram *cough*) I've decided to commit to making the move out of Investment Banking at an early stage in my career. I am currently at GS TMT/FIG, but want out ASAP. Much more detailed account of my current position can be found in my previous post: "GS TMT/FIG and Want Out" (WSO isn't letting me actually link a link due to my newbie status..)
I'm looking for counsel on how to go abut jumping ship to a HF (or even long only AM shop)? My passion is in investing, plain and simple. Given the delicate recruiting situation at my firm, I can't openly go around knocking on doors talking with MD's about placing at HF's when I'm 4 months on the job. Anybody been in a similar predicament or have any advice?

Take a breath dear stranger. Put away the fact that others view your status in a certain light. But do listen to the fact that if you quit now your HF dreams will probably go down the drain. And yet for some reason recruiters who hold the key to your HF dreams want to see some time aboard that slaveship. As terrible as it sounds .... bear with it until you have something better. It might be in a few months or maybe even a year. Please do not be brash, just know that attitude can go a long way. The most toxic thing you can do to yourself is have the attitude that you deserve to be at a HF now and the current position is garbage (which it very well may be just that I am basing my argument on the fact that it is easier to get a good job with a current good job). Because your attitude will show and might get you booted before you land something you really want.
Dude, you are at an elite group across the board. If you leave now you are literally washing away so much opportunity and potential for wealth. I know 3 people who started at elite groups at GS. One is now an MD at a top PE. One is top dog/partner at GS (will not be named). Last is VP at a PE/VC shop.
Stick it out at least a year and you will receive a golden ticket bud. It's 8 months, that's nothing.
