GPA - M&A/industry groups Vs. DCM/ECM

Hey fellow monkeys,

Just had a quick question regarding gpa requirements for getting past the screening process.

Do DCM/ECM groups typically have lower gpa standards than groups like M&A and other more popular industry groups? I assumed that it might be slightly lower but probably still requires a high gpa. Any insight? It seems to me like it is less competitive to get into capital markets so if anyone could shed some light on that it would be appreciated as well.

Thanks.

Got interview with BB M&A group with 3.5 GPA. Everyone who interviewed me is from the same team so I think it depends on the preference of the team. My friend got interviews with both ECM/DCM and M&A teams but ended up with ECM. FYI she is from a semi-target with 3.7gpa so i guess it depends; there is no "requirement" as long as you have over 3.5ish (even 3.3)

You must have shown a ton of interest or had some kind of inside connection; how did you get that interview?

Nah i just applied and all my experience before were on buy-side so there wasn't anything like "a ton of interest". Was focused on HF/PE so didn't really do any networking for IB. I think I just have a good CV and got lucky since normally you were assigned to groups after receiving the offer but apparently everyone who interviewed me was from M&A. Could just be a random process since normal selection should be the same as what NorthSider said

No one cares about GPA after you have a job. The group selection process is about finding a fit and networking if you want a more competitive group.
