Interviewing during hiring freeze!!!

Hi everyone,

would appreciate any opinions on this. I got interested in a vacancy i saw advertised online. One of my good friends is a very senior girl at the firm, so i told her and she said the firm has a hiring freeze at current time but advised me to apply anyway and said she will put in a recommendation for me. soon after she came back saying that it seems the job wont go live until end of the year so i thought i may not hear back till then. to my surprise i got a call asking me to go for an interview for the job next week!!! i find it strange that they told my friend they arent hiring then ask me to come in! could it be that this is a much needed post to fill or maybe someone quit and they need to fill the role! why would they advertise jobs if they are not intending to take anyone on.

thanks

I've interviewed a couple times during a hiring freeze. I never got the job as an internal from the same cost center was taken over me so head count was raised but I was able to build some good relationships.

You could be correct though, they need to fill the position asap. They could also just be doing a favor for your friend. Either way this is an opportunity for you should take advantage of. Go into the interview with the full intention of getting hired and proving you are the right personf for the job. Do not worry about the hiring freeze as it is beyond your control.

Could be that HR don't know what the fuck they're doing...a pretty safe assumption.

Have people seen the "look like the buyside" ads on here recently, they're amazing! well done, someone has done their market research.

Way to go, good luck. I landed three internships in a two week period right in the middle of the crash. There's always an opportunity if you're really willing to look for it and work at it....maybe not the ideal opportunity, but opportunity nonetheless.

Oh, and BTW.....fuck HR

Keep pressing your case. Anything is possible. I landed three internships (f500, ER, marketing) in one month at the pit of the recession without having ANY finance experience.....and if I can break in, I'm thoroughly convinced that anyone who applies themselves can.

Yeah, both of your posts make absolute sense.

UFO: The only problem there is I don't have enough $$ to live on to take on an unpaid internship at the moment. I understand that this is probably my BEST case at breaking in, but living wise its just unrealistic -- any ideas?

Bobb: I completely agree with you and thats on the forefront of my mind. I'm just in a place where I (thankfully) realized I need to get out of here ASAP. After a year of thinking this was the place for me, I finally came to my senses and now know that I need out, so I'm just trying to push.
