is getting summa cum laude that much different?

Hi all,

I am a graduating senior and my GPA is extremely close to getting summa cum laude.
I go to a school w quarter system and just started a new quarter. In order for me to get my summa, I need to take an additional 5 unit course. The other classes are I'm taking are extremely difficult (for one class, I have 8 novels to read, 2 of which are 500 pages each) and taking an additional course can actually lower my GPA.

Assuming I get straight A's without that extra class, I will still have a GPA extremely close to 3.9. In the eyes of the ad com, how important is the Latin honor as opposed to the number itself?

As additional detail, I am econ major, acct minor, spanish minor.

Hope you are enjoying your night.

I'm in a very similar situation as well, actually.

I mean, at the end of the day, it's really not that important whether you have a 3.88 or a 3.90 for summa. However, if it's in your control to get summa, suck it up and just go for it.

Good luck.

i didn't even pick up my diploma

graduated from a state school, i can't care less about that degree

Ehhh, it's different with an engineering degree. You don't sneak out with low effort.

Latin honor or Not, that's an impressive GPA. I think you'll be OK as far as finding a job. It's mostly a matter of whether or not YOU want the honor.

i would do it!

imagine that you are being introduced as a speaker at an industry conference 10 years from now. now imagine the host saying "Monkeyfest graduated summa cum laude from XYZ university with a degree in....". bang thats straight gangsta!

i'm only half-joking.
