Offering 1% of my income for HF mentor
I am a junior entering a IBD position at a BB.
I am looking for a mentor in the HF industry to chat in person on a bi-weekly basis for 1:30 minutes. Someone interested in investing some time into a young, aspiring money manager.
In return, I am offering 1% of my gross yearly income for the next 5 years.
Please PM me with your credentials.
Why don't you just meet someone who works in the industry and get advice and a friend for free?
I know that you have good intentions with this financial arrangement, but some people might find this as a turn off (the real guys already make enough money and they don't need that) and you might become a sucker for a few (who want to take advantage of you).
Personal advice, just drop the financial arrangement. No matter how you look at it, it is wrong. Try to come off as personable, intelligent and ambitious (underdog story, see Rocky) enough in explaining your story that people are willing to go to the bat for you.
Emotion is the most powerful currency and use it wisely. Good luck.
No offense, but if you need a mentor that bad, I'm willing to bet that 1% of your income isn't going to be a whole lot...
so assuming you make $75k after tax you're going to pay $750 for 26 hours of consulting? That's $29 per hour, not enough for a steak dinner.
And if you get fired, 1% of nothing is still nothing.
No thanks.
OP's offer of 1% is insulting. If you are seriously about compensating a high-caliber mentor, you may want to up your ante and offer say, 20% of your total incomes. Then you might actually get some good responses.
You're about to be an SA? Instead of trying to buy a mentor, just worry about putting in a couple years FT first.
Fucking fool. Gonna have to nod to Black Hat here:

OP, this is a no brainer.
I'll mentor ya man. Only thing is I request 50% of your income so I can have a conrolling interest in your life. Credentials:
That's enough for now, lemme know
i'd like to add you to my human centipede.
add him right to your mouth
you'd make a fine center piece.
LOL this reminds me of this thread: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/free-lunch-to-anyone-in-jpm-boa-m…
Dude, anyone who is going to accept 1% of your measly salary is not worth getting advice from, and someone who is willing to offer 1% of their salary to get advice isn't worth giving advice to.
