Stop posting so many crappy articles
When I go to "recent posts," literally NINETY PERCENT of the threads are financial news headlines, instead of actual DISCUSSION threads. Not only that, they are sometimes double posted - wait, make that QUADRUPLE posted. You have gotten out of control. If I wanted news, I would go to wsj.com or ft.com. Why do you have to do that? If you're getting paid per click, then that's sort of understandable, but this is seriously ridiculous. It feels like my inbox used to be before the innovation of spam blocking. It's gotten to the point where it almost discourages me from even visiting the site. The Recent Posts section is the best way to check out what people have been talking about, but now it's an essentially useless function now thanks to your neurotic OCD habits.

It's probably a server problem, and a minor one at that. What's with the fucking attitude? Someone shove a dildo up your ass?
I won’t condone mark’s
I won’t condone mark’s diatribe, but I can see where he’s coming from. Feed items should not be filed under Recent Posts.
please

mark klein MD, please tell me how you really feel.
I am not getting paid per click on news articles (i get paid for traffic and clicking on ads), it is just a way for me to promote relevant / interesting finance articles to the home page when I find something interesting. I figure sometimes the WSO monkeys actually would like to start a discussion on an interesting news story.
there is also a simple solution to your problem. If you click the "Forum Topic" tab after hitting Recent Posts, you won't see any of the Feed Items you despise. So you can just refresh that to see when a new topic has been commented on.
Apologies for the double/triple/quadruple posts on the Feed items but unfortunately that is out of my control since the Feedparser module is slightly fucked up. I'll try to stay on top of it more and keep it clean until a less buggy module is released.
I wish there was a way to make the default Recent Posts see just the Forum Topics...actually, there may be a way to change the Path to http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/xtracker/type/forum so the default just opens to the Forum topics, but for now, you can just click on the Forum Topic tab. I'll let you know when / if I can get that to work.
Thanks for the feedback,
Patrick

Ya I admit I have been a little disappointed in the lack of in depth conversation on the site although I noticed it has gotten better with the filtering of threads to the get a job forum.
What i feel occurs is there are quite a bit of leechers on this site that do not contribute at all but sit and mooch off content, ask their repetitive questions that are unique to their personal situation. Those are the people that sort of frustrate me and i question if finance is truly their drive or rather just the highest paying job they can find. As a whole i think the site is well ran and the average user really is not as dumb as one might think.
REMEMBER this is a public internet forum, there are dumb people out there that ask even dumber questions. Considering that I think the average user here is ok.
On a side note, I was in a finance club and this site seems to behave the same way, a few people that contribute a lot and the rest of the people are there to either pad the resume or help them get a job. Others were there to really gain a better understanding of the industry.
Overall you run a good site and i wouldnt contribute if i didnt think it was worthwhile.
thanks

Thanks Trade4size. i also have a bunch of stuff in the works (writer to send out a Weekly newsletter and video blog) that will hopefully keep the site interesting and entertaining for the best users. The video blog is a ways off, but the newsletter should start soon. I am also about to enter into a partnership with a training program that will give Registered WSO users a discount on those services and should help generate some revenue which I can reinvest back into the site in other ways as well. I appreciate your patience -- any other feedback you can give me is much appreciated.

Thanks for pointing out the "forum topic" tab - I should've noticed that, that solves the whole problem.
Honestly, posting an interesting article is not the worst idea, because you're right, it can generate discussion, but at least you see why I was frustrated.

I admit I've been similarly annoyed but at the same time, I've clicked on a couple of interesting articles. What probably disappoints me is really just the lack of respective discussion

I think unless a story gets promoted to the home page, there are so many threads / discussions going on during a day that any given article won't get much of a response if it is just left in the Newswire.
nvm

Actually, I take that back. The "my posts" tab works, but the "forum topic" tab does not filter out news feed stuff.
Mark has a good point.

Please stop the self-spamming with virtually useless financial news headlines.
The recent article function has become useless because of the self-spamming with financial news headlines.
WSJ is a better source of news. Competing with mainstream news outlets is doomed to failure. Even worse, it disables an important part of the site's functionality.

#1 i'm not manually inputting these. They are feeds that bring in financial news stories from good sources.
#2 it's messed up right now so there are duplicated being created and more importnantly, when you click on Forum Topic, the filter isnot working
#3 Solution: my web developer is on it and hopefully clicking recent posts will soon default to the Forum Topic view and give the user the option to click on Feed Items if they really want to read them
Will keep you updated. Apologies for the delay and frustration.

This should be fixed by Friday morning...
FIXED
FIXED...you should now not see any Feed Items when you click on Recent Posts.
