Troll jailed

I know this is nowhere near the level of trolling here, but I found it interesting that this troll was jailed.

Guy was a scumbag and definitely deserved some kind of sanction but I dont know, should he be jailed for his idiocy on the internet of all places?

Cool, they're making being a total douche illegal. Can we sponsor Geraldo Rivera for the death penalty? And Perez Hilton, just because?

He was also banned from using social network sites for 5 years (fair enough) and from accessing the internet from ANY device without being observed by a police officer. I think jail time was a bit OTT. The stuff he wrote was vile, but I think a hefty fine and community service would have sufficed. I guess it was done more to make an example of the fact that social contact methods are changing and that just because you are online does not give you the right to say whatever you want.

Put him in jail and force him into some sort of treatment. This type of behavior will only get worse and will likely end up in violence either by the families (resulting in innocent father in jail) or by the troll (innocent victims). Until fully treated, keep him in jail.

I see what you're saying but more often then not the families affected have no idea who the fucking guys is. He may be using a fake name and/or a ghost account on Facebook. It amazes me that this is the society we live in right now. Some asshole gets his kicks from taunting a family thats grieving. I like the idea of having memorial accounts for friends and family that have passed but surely it makes sense to make them private unless the victim or the crime really captured the nation's imagination.

STorIBWhat this guy said was awful, but he shouldn't be punished. What's next? Censoring religious/political speech? Thank God for America's first amendment right.

but facebook has it's own rules no? I am guessing the rules dont work inside certain institutions

Like 18's can smoke cigars but not in school (school rules

I want a lady on the street, but a freak in the bed, Go Bucks!!

Facebook has the right to close this guys account and ban him from using their services. You cannot put this dude in jail for it though.

The guy's a complete fucking asshole and probably crazy. I'm not upset with him going to jail cause it's just messed up what he did, though censoring speech can be a slippery slope (as long as politicians and soccer moms are around to take advantage of it).

KanonIt mentioned in the article he has Asperger syndrome, so maybe to some extent it affects his understanding of his actions. But what he did could also signal someone that has the potential to become violent. He needs treatment moreso than jail.

Yeah, I read that. Makes the whole jail thing even worse. He was an idiot but imagine if he was attacked for being different (because god knows, those geniuses wont be able to tell the difference or care) and hypothetically could be killed. Is that a just punishment?

NYCUm, you all need to contextualize this. This article concerns the UK, with a different understanding of rights than in the US. The article makes only a glancing reference to ASBos. Google / wikipedia the term if you are unfamiliar with it -- in the context of UK ASBOs, I wouldn't call this out of line. Whether ASBOs are a good idea or not, of course, is a different matter entirely.

I like Britain. Seriously. They gave the world the magna carta, the USA, tea, a real ally to go in to Iraq with and Australia. But now, they're one of the biggest nanny states in the world. Politically correct to the max, and taking care of their people cradle to the grave. Seriously, goo goo gaa gaa.

You know what, God bless 'em if that's what they want. I just don't understand how a whole nation has bad teeth, and I'm not even Joking. You know why Keira Knightley is a huge star..........PERFECT TEETH......and in the land of the blind, the on eyed man is king.
