Wall Street Jobs for High School Students.

So after having a discussion here

And going on a tangent about crappy public schools and the problem of one-size-fits-all education, I started thinking seriously about letting high school kids work for high school credit rather than sit in a class all day.

I remember taking Business 101 in high school and wanting to learn more about how to start/operate a business. At the same time, my freshman classes were mostly review from high school. Yet, we regularly offer freshman and sophomores internships even though they probably have a very small advantage over kids in high school.

These guys have had some success in getting high school kids to focus on careers.

This kind of program looks promising and yet, until I did a Google search I had never heard of it. Does anyone have any experience with the NAF or organizations like it? Either as a student or a finance professional? This is the kind of educational reform I could get behind.

Goldman takes a few HS students each summer to help with clerical, back-office type stuff. It sounds like a great experience for those kids, who would otherwise be working at daycamps or golf courses.

What I would quite like tough is much more free subject choice, at a much earlier age. Kids get tortured with so many utterly useless subjects they hate.

I really dont see the point of making people do art/music if they hate it(or make them do science if they hate it).

Agreed, A broad education is good. I do like the sound of this though. It's something I'd encourage my child to do for sure.
