Thoughts on Vault Guides???
I have the WSO guides and was looking into buying either Rosenbaum or vault books on IB. I noticed that the books from vault are often 10+ years old. Are they still relevant? Thanks.

Career Resources
Still relevant.
Explain. Seems like this forum thinks they are garbage.
bump
I'd push you to buy R&P before getting the Vault guides...
Don't see why this thread was bumped but I ended up getting the Rosenbaum stuff and vault from a professor.
Vault is worthless.
Vault guides - Are they worth the money? (Originally Posted: 06/15/2009)
Are they worth th $$$? Are there any specific ones that are better than others? I'm talking about the industry guides as well as the finance and case interview guides
WSO guides are as good if not better and way cheaper. But the Vault industry guide is OK I guess. WSO tech, behavioral and networking are all real solid.
Check your school's career center. I know a lot of targets and semi-targets offer their students free online access to VGs. The guide to finance interviews is superb.
Vault = Amazing
I don't like them. I get the feeling that there isn't too much research going into these reports--they actually quote the message boards/surveys on the site for some of the guides. Like someone mentioned, check if your school has access. If not, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the one you have your eyes on.
Many schools, especially those with decent business schools (ugrad), offer Vault access to its students, so to echo what others have said, you should check out that avenue first. If not, I think there are plenty of free resources available on the internet so that you shouldn't have to buy many, if any, vault guides to find out about the markets, analytical practices, the job itself, finance/accounting rules and formulas, case studies, etc.

lmao why was this bumped?
What is the Best Vault Guide? (Originally Posted: 04/10/2007)
If you only have time to memorize and learn 1 of the numerous Vault Guides, what is the best one to do? VG to Finance Interviews, VG to Investment Banking, VG to Quantitative Finance Interviews, VG to Investment Management, VG to S & T, etc?
Assume that you will be interviewing for numerous divisions within an investment bank?
I looked at all of them and found Finance the most comprehensive, however it might not delve into the detail you want.
Vault Guide to Finance is the best overall
but i would also read the one that is the career you want to go into (IB, S&T, IM,etc).
for basics read the valuation chapter.
Do you have access to "Heard on the Street: Quantitative Questions from Wall Street Interviews"? If you're an undergrad, the questions in there will make your interview feel like a walk in the park. Just be prepared for the typical interview questions, too. Have stories ready that illustrate your ability to work hard, act as a leader, and get the job done right.
Also, read the WSJ before the interview.
Anyone notice that Vault seems to almost totally exclude Carlyle? They have a listing for it, but it doesn't seem right in a lot of ways.
It isn't on their prestige rankings anywhere. The employee/salary surveys also appear to be for a totally different company.....they seem very unrelated/random.
Anyway, lots of the smaller companies I was looking at (still not tiny) weren't in their listings, which didn't make me very happy.

VAULT GUIDE QUESTION (Originally Posted: 01/09/2012)
Hey guys,
I found the 2005 Vault Guide online and have been reading that for a bit. Many errors and not a great guide, but it gives a good picture of the many aspects of banking.
QUESTION- Does anyone have a better guide than Vault or an updated Vault guide?
Does anyone recommend a book/guide to learn about banking for an aspiring college student?
I liked WSO's technical guide more than BIWS, but both are good.
do either of those get behind the meaning of the problems and subjects? Looking for the meaning rather than simply staring at numbers and memorizing answers.
vault guides and other useful resources (Originally Posted: 08/13/2013)
Hey guys if you are looking to get your hands on some useful resources for your job search, and are currently in nyc, then you should check out the Science Industry and Business Library at 188 Madison Avenue @ 34th Street.
You can sign up for the vault webpage and get all the vault guides for free, use bloomberg terminal, join business clubs, attend job search/ career related events, and there are even resources for small businesses.
You can also sign up to speak to a career advisor but i didnt find them that helpful.
