Blackrock PAG prestige?

I want to know how prestigious BlackRock PAG is. I am deciding between some offers between this and a prop trading shop called trillium.

I'm leaning towards BlackRock right now because i hear it is very analytical and has great exit ops into hedge funds or investment banking because of the BlackRock name.

Some people though have been telling me that this is a back office job and I won't be analyzing stocks, is this true or are they just jealous? Some of my classmates who told me this probably didn't get interviews so just letting you know.

also is it possible to get into investment banking from BlackRock and if so does it base more on gpa and major or your current job? i ask this because my current stats are not too impressive i have a 3.2 from a nontarget state school (top 100 us news ranking).

thanks.

also please let me know what PAG does? and if prestige is better than prop trading.

Trillium is a legit prop shop. I think "shorttheworld" worked there. Might want to PM him.

So Blackrock PAG isn't front office? The people I interviewed with told me it was basically front office and that you can move into portfolio management easily, does this mean exit ops into hedge funds from PAG?

whenever the selling point of a group is that "you can move into another group" at the same firm, you know you don't want to be in that group.

This sounds like a technology, back office reporting, or risk mgt function to me. I don't see anything about investment decisions in here.

Portfolio Analytics Group

The Portfolio Analytics Group (PAG) is a risk and analytics group in BlackRock Solutions that utilizes sophisticated analytics on fixed income, equity and alternatives businesses to help our clients and portfolio managers understand their portfolio exposures, strategy, risk and returns. PAG provides the daily risk reporting and ad-hoc analytical support to over $7 trillion worth of assets under risk management across thousands of portfolios. Analysts will gain a broad understanding of the asset and risk management business, which includes learning about the wide range of securities our clients trade, how they are priced in the market, how we analyze them within BlackRock Solutions and what sensitivities they have to various market factors. The group is also responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing the technology that is used to support the trading and reporting needs of BlackRock Solutions’ risk management clients.

I know a couple people who work in PMG, they say PAG is back office. Few people outside of PMG know its back office so I'd say its still pretty prestigious though

Given you are Mr. Prestige: it is very simple, PMG is where it's at. You can make up whatever excuses you want for PAG being "FO". Twist/spin that job description all you want, label it, map it on your subjective little 1 to 10 FO scale, but you'll only be kidding yourself. It is binary. You're either in that clearly defined investment role or you're not. There's no in between and there are no grey areas.

Now, if you just want a decent well-paid job where you can challenge yourself, PAG probably has some very rewarding and interesting functions. However, judging by your posts, you'll always be that little douchebag. The douchebag that's always concerned with his status (despite having none). The same one who's always trying to explain what it is he does exactly while always using vague descriptions...instead of just owning up to it with a simple "oh I'm in PAG at BlackRock" or "I'm in operations at GS".

Rant over. Go with trillium.

I think you guys are all just jealous. trillium is a no name and will be hard to get into IBD from there. i'm a non target so I need a big name on my resume like blackrock. PAG is also more like risk which I hear is up and coming and the next big thing for hedge funds and investment banks.

can someone tell me how prestigious PAG is from 1-10.

Hilarious. Gave up the trolling too easily.

Flake you're a hater. i will be telling everyone i work in the best group at blackrock and that's it. no need to be jealous, i bet you don't even have a job as prestigious as mine.

Shorttheworld used to work at Trillium so you should PM him and discuss. He was very successful there, so he may be a bit bias, but I imagine he'll give you an honest picture of what you're looking at. The salary is like 26k in midtown NYC and the washout rate is extremely high. It is pure equity/etf prop in the sense that it isn't terribly dissimilar from using E-trade on your own. That being said, it is entirely "legit" and not a scam like several companies that claim to be "prop firms". If you want to analyze and trade stocks, that does seem like a good fit, just be aware of the situation. I don't really see how either will lead you on a clear path to IB without getting an MBA first.

In my mind, PAG will be a steady paycheck and you might be able to transfer to other areas with some experience. The trading firm is high risk/high reward so it really just depends what you're looking for.
