Am I Screwed? - From a nontarget.

I'll just be honest and straightforward.

EDIT**at least one applicant has an offer**

I am from a non-target. I superday-ed at a top AM firm this past Friday (PIMCO/BlackRock/etc.). This firm is my number one choice and they know it. During my superday, the guy literally said "i would ask you why ABC Firm, but I can just tell from your resume and research you've done on the company which is pretty cool".

superday interviews went well. But they kind of felt like this: You know how you cannot tell a girl you like her? You almost have to play hard to get? I didn't say ABC Firm was my top choice, but it was pretty
fucking obvious from the things I was saying in general (i.e. I have read all of your CIO's investment outlooks from 1999 to the present. I didn't brag about that fact. they asked me about that kind of stuff and it naturally came in conversation and when they probed a few questions to test my knowledge, they could tell I had done so)

HR said I should hear back by mid-next week. Today, I got this e-mail:

"Dear Candidate-

We are still in the process of evaluating candidates and hope to be able to get back to you with an update by Monday, February 25th. Please keep us posted on your other timelines.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your patience. "

Am I dinged? Are they waiting for other people's offers? A rivaling top AM firm has its superday this Friday-to which many of my fellow interviewees had been invited. Are they waiting for this superday to give out its offers potentially?

Is there anything I can do to affirm my interest?

PTS:
Doesn't sound like a ding that fast. They probably want to interview another round or two then make their selections. And yes, next time don't appear like a stalker who is putting all your hope into one significant other, it makes you look like no one else wants you (this is bad).

Is there anything I can do at this point? I feel like re-affirming my interest to HR or interviewers would be counter-productive (its like asking a girl out again after she avoided your previous request with a lame excuse kinda). They know their my top choice..

I wouldn't say screwed. The fact they even bothered to give you an update I would take as a good sign. Hang in there.

"They are all former investment bankers that were laid off in the economic collapse that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have no marketable skills, but by God they work hard."

if its blackrock, they definitely gave out some offers friday and you're on hold. if its PIMCO, no clue

best of luck

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be”

If anything you may be waitlisted which is why they are waiting to get back to you and that may be the deadline for people. There is always hope especially since they want you to keep them updated on if you get any other offers so I would say it is definitely better than a rejection

I've heard that you ought to tell employers that they are your top choice - it's not really a lie if they're not, since they are no doubt 'up there' on your list, even if they aren't clearly your number one. Having said that, I do understand playing 'hard to get' - I can't imagine it reflects will on you if you're throwing yourself at their feet. But, like I said, I've heard you ought to tell them they are your top choice. Anyway, good luck with it.
