Am I Technically a Minority?

I just found out that I'm somewhere along the lines of less than 5% Uruguayan. Does this mean I can apply for Latino career opportunities?

Also, since I'm white and most of the population in Uruguay is white, are they going to ask me to whip out a genealogy tree?

brandon st randy:
How can you be 5% Uruguayan? Is your father's maternal cousin's nephew's sister in law's college roommate from Uruguay?

Anyway, this is reason #5684959 of why AA needs to be scrapped.

Yeah. Something like that, but I actually do have documented proof if the subject comes up.

And I couldn't agree more about AA being scrapped, but for the time being, I believe it's in my own best interest to take advantage of any and every opportunity that presents itself.

You are not an ethnic minority. You are a cultural minority.

Most of the population of Uruguay is white because they are European descendants. Thus not an ethnic minority.

edit: just read this wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Uruguay[/quote]

I knew it was mostly white, but I was hoping that since it's located in Latin America, it still counts as being Latino.

Anyone know for sure?

According to the US Census, Latino is not a race.

Can someone explain to this Asian how Hispanics are no white? I mean some of them look pretty Native, but tell that to a guy from Argentina who looks completely blonde.

White = race Hispanic = ethnicity

Some american indian tribes qualify people as descendants/applicable for claiming tribal heritage and federal benefits with as little as 1/32. So thats probably the least youd be able to be, but in this circumstance probably yes.

I think Elizabeth Warren could help you figure this one out. She's done more with less

I was going to bring her up too. Her Native American roots that non of her relatives or family can prove. On that note, I'd list it and take advantage of the system. It will get you an interview at least for saying your a minority with "Above average" grades/skills.

My dad was adopted and through out my life my cousin always had told me that she thought my dad was more than just Polish because of his more tan complexion. he never knew his parents or met them but only knew his dad was Polish and Ukrainian. I recently did a DNA test on myself and found out that my dads haploid group originates from the Basque region-- which counts as Hispanic. Do a little more digging around and tracking down and I basically find out that in the late 60s when my dad was born (I'm 27 my dads 44) my biological grandfather got a Basque-puerto rican female pregnant who went ahead and gave up my dad for adoption as they were nt going to marry and back then interracial couples weren't looked kindly upon- and if any of you are true Polaks know how racist the Eastern European community can be.

So this past year I found out I'm a quarter basque/puerto rican ( basque explorers traveled to PR and some governors were Basque ). As an FYI, Hispanic is not a race and there is a different between Hospanic and Latino. Technically Hispanic is anyone from the Iberian peninsula, either originally or currently, and is largely an American made construct. Latino, from what I read, technically refers to French and Italians as well but usually we use it to mean Latin Americans -- and Hispanics can be Latin American but not all Hispanics are Latin American. Does that make sense?

Some scholarships and funds require you to be at least a quarter to claim the right.

When I found out, everyone was like "oh no wonder you love food wine an curvy women"
