Background check: Drug test for nicotine

Before anyone mentions this, I already searched the site and couldn't find anything on this.

My question is this: When they do the drug test for pre-employment screens, do they check for nicotine or just illegal drugs?

No wait, it's not a dumb question. I don't want to pay the higher rates on health insurance and want to know if they test you for nicotine as well while they're testing you for drugs.

If you smoke and you say you don't smoke to get cheaper rates, that's pretty much fraud.

Yeah, I know. That's why I want to know if they test for nicotine.

I don't even know what this statement means.

"They misunderstand me."

Everyone's railing on you for your question and you were trying to explain your point.

Why can't I edit it!?! Now everyone will see my typo

EDIT: I can edit this one though

when your text gets quoted you can no longer edit it...

So, are you guys not answering me because you're being jerks or because you don't know the answer?

are they also checking for alcohol??

That wouldn't make sense though because consuming alcohol does not effect your health insurance premiums. Nicotine does.

This can't be a real question.

EDIT: Please just pay a few extra bucks a month, and don't lie to your insurance company. Are you really that cheap?

Yeah, I'm pretty cheap. My understanding is that the difference is pretty big, but not sure about that.

EDIT: I'm asking for a 'friend'.

to be fair, it isn't "a few extra bucks a month" I believe at the bank I worked last, it was like 600 or 700 dollars more or something like that over the whole year... Not the end of the world but that's a couple airline tickets...

Hater's gonna hate OP, don't let them get you down.

During my drug test I tested positive for three separate types of anabolic steroids and a low-grade beaver tranquilizer. Needless to say my premiums went through the roof. Your concern is certainly warranted.

An employment screen will only test for illegal substances. I think that there's only a survey to fill out for health insurance so if you don't check the box then nobody would know. But if you have a doctor and do any type of blood work, cotinine will show up as a substance because it takes about half a week for the substance to disappear. If you want to save money, then you should just stop smoking lol.

Thanks buddy. At least there is one person on this site who isn't just a jackass who's trying to be funny.

Well, considering that your question had no point of clarification between legal substances (which nicotine is) and illegal substance (which nicotine is not), don't be a snarky jacknape and assume that everyone knows what you mean. Ask a question and get an answer to that very question. Next time be clear about how you ask your question so you can get the answer you're looking for.
