Houlihan Lokey - LA

Hey guys,

There's very little information available online on Houlihan Lokey and their LA office, despite being headquartered there. I know their RX group is one of the best, but there is conflicting information on its culture and hours.

So if any intern or monkey working on the west coast has any information, it would be great if you could share it here.

Essentially looking for -

1) Group Breakdown (RX, CF, FAS) - What industry groups do they cover in CF?

2) Culture/Hours worked - Again have heard conflicting things on the CF groups in HLHZ.

3) Dealflow - Again I'm assuming RX is no1, but what about the other groups?

Thanks in advance!

Don't know anything specific about CF (FAS is generally considered "not real IB" but has the reduction in hours to go with it, would probably avoid if you have another offer), but RX is definitely a great place to be. Obviously long hours but all the people who work there are really chill and probably some of the best to spend long nights in the office with. The firm also goes out of its way to make your summer enjoyable regardless of group.

Yes still a student, but have met 90% of HL RX LA lol. It's a lean group for the amount of deal flow they get and seems like staying past midnight regularly is true.

Houlihan is really big in small company valuation work... Company just wants to be valued, but not necessarily interested in pursuing a deal. I've seen one of their small company valuations, and it was very impressive, but the quality attests to the sweatshop.

Also, I've heard the dress code is very formal. (?)

yep lots of fairness opinions. THRILLING!

Correction - Sweatshop by W. Coast standards? But not by NY standards. They do valuation work for all types of companies... very, very big to small.

Standard IB W. Coast dress code.

FAS is transactional. Media Sports group isn't hot and their ADG group places into solid PE shops and probably has best experience.

LB BankerTheir HQ is in LA. Lifestyle is horrible--total sweatshop.

How do you think it compares to NY LEH? Can't be worse...

heard they are downsizing and paid below street to corp fin analysts this past july. just FYI.
