How is your first week on the job going?

If you haven't started yet feel free to chime in when you do.

My Experience

I literally got this position last minute so some feelings of joy. I work at a P.E. firm. Each day at the "office" is about 10 - 11 hours thus but the work does not end there. My MD gives me a plethora of due diligence reports to complete and a few financial model assignments to work on by the next day which add about 3 - 4 hours for the night. Overall my job starts at 8:00 AM, ends around 12:00 AM. I don't have to be at the office after my MD and supervising analysts/associates leave thus I choose to go home.

Overall not what I expected, kind of surprised as to what you really do at a P.E. firm but adjusting. Key Issue: My firm does not provide meals, it is a pain to pre-make food thus have been eating out all week (will make own food soon) and I find myself starving through the day. It makes it really hard to concentrate after a certain point.

ccrosb14 hour days, ROL FTW

Are your ROL b/c I "only" work 14 hours a day or are you ROL'ing b/c I work 14 hours a day.

...ROL: Return On Life.

Sounds like a great learning experience. Better than sitting on your ass for the summer (assuming you had no options which I'm going on based on you getting this internship last minute)

I take it this is a full-time position because interns would definitely not be given heavy modeling assignments right off the bat.

Sucks that you're experiencing that. Definitely not the glamorous buyside we monkeys envision.

It's not a philosophy for everyone, but personally I always try to keep in my mind my ROL. It's different for everybody.
