Not to dissuade you from using a service, but if you have any alums in the field, try to get a few minutes under their eyes..usually that can help tremendously.

I actually had a few people on this site look at mine, and that definitley helped as well.

I tried his services and honestly his advice was helpful. He completely help me get a banking resume. As a result, I received various SA interviews and offers within two months. I strongly recommend the services. I only wish I had tried the services earlier.

For $100 you will receive better service than most places. Hope this helps.

hahaah, I think ill definitely be using his services come fall.. for next years SA..

but anyways, Vault has these services too... 150 or so i think for the cheapest resume critique service. anyone heard anything about it?

I used the Vault service for a cover letter but was largely unimpressed. The girl I worked with(said she went to Wharton so said she was familiar banking recruiting/what they're looking for) called me, we had a 15-20 minute discussion and a few days later I got a cover letter. Nothing special, I just thought Id try it to see if it yields something exponentially better than my own. I ended up just taking a few tips from her style and still use my own.

I think the best bet is to use these very specific services offered by Dosk and others who know the recruiting process inside out. Id rather pay 100 bucks for a resume from someone who has been through the process 10x rather than someone who has written 100 resumes for all types of jobs. Compared to finance recruiting, other interviews/recruiting is really a joke. The only people that know how intense and competitive it really is, are those who have been there.

Hey - I recently used a firm called High Recruiting. Run by a group of ivy league students who all have jobs at BB firms. They're very helpful and told me a lot of inside tips/tricks that you don't get from vault guide or your college counsellor. I paid $125 for resume and cover letter edit, which is a full package service - they worked with me for as long as needed and we revise multiple drafts. and that's a really good deal, considering how much vault charges.

The website is www.higherrecruiting.com

duno1234 - we spoke over the phone for 20 mins. it was a free consult. after that i signed up for their package. it was a very good deal. they worked with me until i was completely happy with my resume and also worked with me on 12 different cover letters for a number of firms. very personal attention.

Question for dosk:

When sending you over my resume, I suppose I do not need to include personal information such as name, address, phone number etc? (well, okay, maybe not name since my name will be visible to you anyway as I send you money via PayPal)

What about the names of my old employers? Name of school?

I just want to know how much information you would need in order to successfully edit my resume?

Thanks!

Most people who send me their resumes do in fact include all the information you mention. I take privacy very seriously and never reveal anything to anyone - even in my weekly Q&A posts I disguise a lot of the details to protect peoples' privacy.

That said, I understand if you do not want to include personal information, in which case you can block it out and/or make up fake information.

Names of employers/schools would be helpful in terms of me crafting recommendations, but they are by no means necessary. The most important information is a good description of your work experience, because that's the meat of your resume and what I will spend the most time tweaking.

In short - if you are reluctant to show personal information/names, feel free to hide them or block them out and I will work with what you have.
