If Newt wins South Carolina

Romney's numbers in south carolina have collapsed this week due to his mediocre debate performances and gaffes on his tax returns. Newt meanwhile has surged after his fiery passionate debates. All the polls showing newt winning south carolina tomorrow!

What will be the implications? This means romney would be only 1 for 3 and that 3 different men have won the early states, the first in modern history. Romney's ground game and money is still vastly superior to newt, but this could be a bloodbath. Too late for a jeb bush or someone else to enter the race?

Obama is probably the happiest man right now. He's ready to stay put in 1600 pennsylvania avenue until january 20, 2017.

You're completely out of touch if you think another Bush has even a remote shot at the WH in the next hundred years.

Hilarious that Romney hasn't wrapped this thing up with the entire establishment backing him and the media pushing the "inevitably" theme. He truly has no chance and the GOP has no chance against Obama unless they nominate Paul, which the chances of that now look slim. Sad thing is the GOP establishment would rather see Obama win than Paul.

No, but how so?

Paul could be a good president if we were in 19th century. But now? I do not think so, unless he drops some of his ideas such as "Closing Fed".

Yeah, that goddamn age of pure capitalism and meteoric industrial growth, that would be fucking terrible!

May god have mercy on your soul.

I hope Gingrich does win. He has no organisation and money and won't last, unless his win in SC led to a flood of donations (not that likely since he didn't get any money last surge). This will make it easier for Paul to go against Romney, considering that he hasn't won all three/four states. Also, it may force Romney to concede more ground and adopt an economic reform plan that is more bold (probably a watered-down version of Huntsman's).

What people on this forum must be reminded of is that the vast majority of this country fails to have any political opinion beyond what the news media tells them. They are also simple-minded and have no ability to understand and analyze the impact of certain policies that candidates put forth...why else would candidates load their debate answers with prosaic buzzwords? Because Ron Paul's ideas are so revolutionary compared to the other clowns on stage and because the media ignores Paul, people view him as "weird", "dangerous", and "radical" and these "gut" instincts will beat out any rational thought for many Americans. These people are literally striking down the change and honesty in politics that they claim to want. I could only see this changing if Paul shared the stage with only Obama or Romney, thus forcing the moderator to ask him more than one question during the entire debate.

When I watch Ron Paul debate I can't help but see eye to eye with him on a ton of issues. He's very perceptive--even prescient--on many big issues. But when it comes to some big issues--Israel, Iran, immigration, competing private vs. public currency--he's on the fringes of American politics. Even on abortion--he calls himself "pro-life" but he actually holds the same views as I do on abortion and I would define myself as pro-choice. Actual pro-life voters can sniff that out from a mile away.

At the end of the day, Ron Paul is about 50% Republican, 25% libertarian, and 25% liberal Democrat. Therein lies the problem for a guy seeking the GOP nomination. He simply does not have the innate base of support that other candidates would have.

As far as I know, he actually does quite well with evangelicals and others who value the abortion issue. I consider myself pro-life as I am religious and cannot fathom a moral justification for it. However, like Paul, I think, if it is determined that an embryo/foetus/baby is not human and has no rights, then people should have the right to do as they please.

See, MNT, crazy rants like yours are pretty indicative of the far extreme spectrum Paul unfortunately finds himself on. For example, Ron Paul doesn't necessarily support a "gold standard", he supports a competing currency system, which makes him even on the further fringes compared to people like Gingrich who support the gold standard. This is just an example of how Paul has put himself in a position where he has no natural "base" other than the neo-confederate base that is particularly strong in the south and Midwest, but still lacks a voting majority, even in the Republican Party. In fact, his positions prevent him from even getting a voting pluarality in any state's GOP primary.

The fucktards who make up the South Carolina GOP primary voters have given the victory to newt gingrich. Wow. The GOP is so fucked. If Newt were the nominee, it will be the worst republican defeat since goldwater in 1964, and the republicans will also lose the House.

This is seriously hilarious, Newt is up 15% at the moment...how can people be this stupid?

Ron Paul is great, but people in this country love their entitlements. This doesn't just mean welfare, but mortgage interest deduction, child tax credits, electric vehicle deductions, sugar tariffs, etc

These hand outs need to be eliminated, but so many voters benefit from them that saying you will remove them effectively makes you un-electable.

We get the government we deserve and this is exactly what this country deserves. I could care less. Money = Freedom. Get educated, make money and let the proletariat's cry about their lack of "freedom". As if they were ever free.

We are all largely northeastern republican types on here so makes sense for us to not be so thrilled. I think Gingrich will empower the base but we need the middle

Thats one thing a lot of the GOP doesn't get with Newt. He is pretty much hated by moderates and independents, who Romney and Paul do well with. I just don't get how Newt is considered so electable when he couldn't even get his name on all of the ballots. He is the one candidate running who actually scares me, there is just something about his body language and how acts that screams arrogance and a huge desire for power.

He's really only considered electable because of his fundamentally astonishing charisma.

CNN had a focus group in Florida listening to the speeches of the remaining candidates once the results were clear. Each person was given a remote control looking device with a knob that they could swing to the right if liked what they were hearing or to the left if they didnt.

Once candidates finished, I think it was John King who asked something along the lines of "how many of you have made your decision?" Fkin scary how people could make an incredibly important decision or feel closer to making a this decision just by listening to a speech for 15 min. I say we need to revoke voting rights from the stupid.

The one somewhat decent looking girl atleast said she wants to see the debates next week. But yah most of them were leaning to Newt "cause he can win now".
