iOS 7 -- Thoughts?

How do you techies feel about about the new features to iOS? How about iTunes radio?

iOS 7 seems pretty cool from the outside and certainly adds more flash. A nice refresh from an OS that was getting pretty stale and boring. Now was it "revolutionary" as they said, no but some practical features were added.

iTunes Radio is completely pointless in my opinion and looks like an odd, maybe desperate move by Apple. It is Pandora, nothing more. What incentive does a current Pandora listener have to make the switch to iTunes Radio? Why not try out Spotify or even Google All Access which is a combination of all the services.

I think it looked good. I disagree with the media saying the new design will cause Apple to lose die-hard Apple fans who were tied to the old layout.

iTunes Radio looks like it has potential. It's not gonna be as good as Pandora/Spotify right off the bat, but I imagine it should be up to par with them within a year or so.

They're saying that? Shit son, apple lost me BECAUSE they never changed the old layout.

I'm more excited about OSX Mavericks, only for the airplay display now allowing to use the ATV as a separate monitor as opposed to a mirror currently.

Looks like Android, no?

I don't think so. I guess you could relate it to Android by the new vibrant color scheme, but the key thing that sets this design and Android apart is that iOS 7 is flat and simple, and Android is more "3d" real looking, I guess you could say.

If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck and quacks like a duck. Its a duck. The point is, they fiddled with a few colors, with out changing any of the problems that are inherent to the boring design. That is the same as polishing a turd.

homescreens look the same as do the way quick settings work.

Here was an article I was reading showing the comparisons (though it is from a android blog)

can get an app on android to do the same thing

When I read or watch an apple product or press release I subconsciously replace the word revolutionary with evolutionary. The company says it is revolutionary but in reality it isn't. Not even the original ipod was. All that was was a tiny hard drive with a battery. People have been storing music on their computers for years before that. The itunes model was revolutionary but that was software side.

i installed the beta last night, and some of the new features are pretty cool. They really re-did every app even things like weather, clock, etc. I can't say im in love with how it looks, the icons make it look like it is for a child

Market doesn't seem too jazzed about it. But I have a buy order in at $425 that doesn't look like it's going to go off today.

Lately I have been getting the feeling that if Apple was able to win some kind of licensing deal with apple growers that forced the growers to pay Apple for every apple they sold the stock price still wouldn't rally.

iOS 7 looks really good, however iRadio is weird - I think Apple is right to pursue this as an ordinary function and not hype it up so much - it is no better than pandora/spotify/etc... Just provides greater integration, but nothing more. Still a great thing to have, obviously built in functionality is better than an app.

Three things make iTunes Radio interesting over Pandora: 1) Recognizes songs that are in your iTunes and suggests stations you may like / throws in your most played songs every so often 2) Can easily buy a new song / album you like from iTunes (one click transaction) 3) Can go ad-free if you buy iTunes Match ($25 a year) which is a nice perk if you're already bought into the Apple ecosystem

Honestly, I'm most excited about the swipe-from-bottom control center. Something that makes so much sense and that iOS has been sorely missing
