Network Relationship After Rejecting An Offer
What is the relationship with someone you've been networking with after you turn down an offer their firm gives you? Do people typically understand that you're just taking the opportunity most appealing to you or do people ofter get upset about it? In particular, summer analyst roles. Also, if you turn down an SA opportunity are you still in contention for a FT one a year later?
I think it's important to be thankful of the time they gave you and express that. Keep them updated and stay friendly, implicating it was a tough decision, but for xyz reason you decided x firm was the right fit for you right now.
You don't want to burn a bridge, especially one that has been helpful, so extending gratitude, even sending a gift for their help could go a long way to helping you down the road or allowing you to jump ship without any ill-will.
Good luck, Patrick
