Networking into Barclays Capital
I'm a sophomore who goes to a pretty good target school right below the level of HYPW (think Columbia, Dart, UChicago, Cornell, Duke), but for some reason, Barclays does not have significant recruiting where I attend college. Has anybody tried to network into here? I recently met people who are working there right now or have good connections to people there (though they're not family or good family friends I've known for years). I just want to know what you all think my approach should be given my situation.
Also, my GPA is kinda low (3.2ish). However, I've heard that if you can network your way in, then GPA doesn't really matter. Is that true?
If you know someone that can pull your resume out of a stack, you might be able to get away with a lower GPA. But you still need to bring something to the table.
I've tried networking into Barcap; however, I feel that out of all the BBs, they were the hardest to get in if you attend a school that they do not do OCR. Nevertheless, above poster is correct, you just need one person to pull your resume out of the stack and flag your resume for an interview.
It's a British bank - therefore you might want to try through London.
lol Are you serious? So, are you saying that CS, DB, UBS, RBC, RBS, etc. all do their US hiring through their respective home countries?
lol.
But yeah what the above poster said is most likely true. Out of all the BBs - perhaps even more so than CS - Barclays is least likely to hire outside of its core schools.
You need to get the gpa up..Also, Cornell is not on the same level of the other schools you mentioned (with regards to finance recruiting.)
Hmmm....if my GPA is in the 3.1-3.2 range, will i likely be asked, "why are your grades low?" even if I network my way to an interview?
So then come up with a response as to why. Once you actually have an interview, it's on you.
