Providence Equity Partners
I was hoping to get a sense for the group culture at Providence. Also, what's it like living in Providence, RI? Never been there myself...

Providence is OK as a city. Boston is only 45 minutes away or so.
Yeah, i met a former associate... he lived in Boston and took the commuter rail down every morning because "providence sucks"
think the commute from boston is more ilke 1.5 hours door to door (am i wrong?) = ~3 hours round trip commute each day. that's gotta suck
Commute is definitely not an hour and a half. It's 45 minutes, 60 at the most in traffic. Providence is a really nice small city, but if you're coming from New York you'd be better off commuting from Boston as you'll probably get bored there. Great place to raise a family though, especially on the east side near Brown and RISD.
As for Providence Equity, they've had some growing pains in the 2000's - they exploded from a top mid-market firm into a megafund and it took them a while to adjust to the scale. That said, from what I've heard they're good guys and know the media / entertainment space as well as any fund, so if that's your interest and you have the opportunity to interview, it's definitely worth the look.
Any comments on the interview process?
good firm to work for and yes Boston would be the safe bet if you want to live in the bigger city and enjoy night life. RI is a beautiful state with beaches and rent is way cheaper than Boston.
Pretty standard. They pull from top groups, particularly those with M&A/LevFin/TMT experience. Obviously having a tie / interesting in living in that part of the country helps as they know it's not a top destination for recruits. I think Amity led their recruiting back when I was looking at them but can't remember for sure; might have been SG.
Providence Equity Partners: hiring season?? (Originally Posted: 04/26/2010)
Word through the grapevine is Providence Equity Partners is getting ready to start hiring Associates. I have not seen a posting anywhere online, but that's what I'm hearing.
Thought some of you monkeys looking to make the transition to PE might find this helpful.
Think their main headhunter is amity partners. Anybody heard from them regarding the process?
it's definitely amity.
is their process much different from megafunds? i mean in terms of the associate profile they recruit, etc.
They've hired in Europe already...not sure if hiring whole way through the year though

So I was able to find a summer internship at Providence Equity, working there now for 4 weeks, but TPG just gave me an offer for the end of this summer, meaning I would have to quit providence early in order to join. Is it worth it?
Get out of here ricochet.
hahaha
Ask to push back the start date.
Yay, 2 year old zombie thread

Hi,
I've done some searches on Providence Equity, but know only that it is a firm very strong in media, entertainment, telecom, etc.
What I'd like to know is what the firm culture is like, what the hours are, whether or not associate work is primarily cold-calling/sourcing, and what the pay might be like.
Also, how are the non-Providence offices like? Are they significantly different than headquarters at all in terms of the type of work you get and the culture of the firm? I'd primarily be interested in finding out more about the New York office.
Thanks.
Bump!
All I'll say is that its a good firm (that's gotten into some tough deals as of late -- only time can tell). Not sure about NYC but hours are a little better than the other mega buyouts, but not drastically, though with the climate nowadays who knows. Culture is ok, not the best out there, but i knew some guys who had fun.
Does anyone know if all first year associates get hired to the RI office or if there is the possibility of starting in NYC?
To clarify, I see that they have associates in NYC on their website, but it's unclear to me whether they started and then moved after a short time.
Any other current info is appreciated (esp. culture of the firm)
