1 day in the future

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

maximus307^agreed. knowing what people are thinking can help you more accurately predict the future, so I would go with mind reading, provided I dont have to be in direct contact with someone to do it. otherwise, i would take the one day in the future option.

Why would you choose an option that would allow you to "more accurately predict the future" when you could choose the other option of knowing the future?

Regards

everythingsucksLet's also suppose you can control only one mind at a time.
If you were extremely skilled, you could ensure that the one mind you controlled went on to influence other people's behavior to a level at which you could influence the future on a micro-level. I think for this scenario I would choose being able to see into the future, though, because I could expend much less effort for relatively equal (or greater) results.

lol, squirtlez. If you have a power that will make you a lot of money, you won't need to be able to see through clothes. The clothes will come off willingly.

I am going to choose B, since A is really not a super power.

Suppose you have the ability to see one day into the future. So you are at the bar, and you start talking with a girl, and you "gaze" into the future, and you see that she will not be waking up with you tomorrow morning. So naturally, you stop talking with her, and proceed on to the next girl. Thus, by knowing you would fail, you chose not to attempt to talk to her, thus confirming your failure. Even if you tried to talk to her, you would not have succeeded anyway, and thus the event would be confirmed. Nothing you could do would change the course of events, thus you would not be able to really use your power.

The same holds true in the market. If you know gold is going to crash tomorrow, then you naturally will short gold tonight. But that would mean that gold crashed because you shorted it. In effect, you created the effect through the cause. Thus, in scenario 1, it is impossible to respond to the events that you know will happen, and, to some extent, you become the reason they occur in the first place. Thus, this isn't really a super power, since you only have the ability to see, but not to react. I don't see how this would give you an advantage in trading.

Option B is superior in this regard. You can hear the person's thoughts (ie the girl in the bar), and you can respond in a way that will allow you to score. Same with "the trade". You can "hear" what other market participants really think, and respond accordingly. The ability to respond to secret information is far superior to the ability to know the exact outcome.

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?

The power to close pointless threads.

- Bulls make money. Bears make money. Pigs get slaughtered. - The harder you work, the luckier you become. - I believe in the "Golden Rule": the man with the gold rules.

Evil - probably flying flame throwers.

Self Interest - ability to see into the future and make trades.

Global buyer of highly distressed industrial companies. Pays Finder Fees Criteria = $50 - $500M revenues. Highly distressed industrial. Limited Reps and Warranties. Can close in 1-2 weeks.

Snap my fingers and person I've selected is clothed in a ridiculous fursuit and everyone laughs at them.

I hate furries.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

why not just list "Dressing up in a Fur Suit"? Listing this indicates you have no sense of how the mainstream population who is aware of that game perceives those who play it.

I hate furries.

why so angry, friend?

Seeing the future, so I can short it. @DickFuld

Interesting point, but being long provides the the best returns, since stocks can only go down 100%.

I would also see the future and buy lotto tickets a few times on big prizes until they shut the lotto down while accusing me of cheating. Or maybe I just buy the week before the biggest prize payout and invest in a bunch of winners in the markets, but not the best , just so I don't get thrown in jail. The question being: would my superpower allow me to see which trades would get me thrown in jail?

You'd go crazy hearing other people's thoughts... food for thought :)
