Call for more mods

Hey guys, we've had an increase in spammers that feel inclined to drop some spammy comment and annoying irrelevant links.

I'm spending a bit too much time combing through the forums deleting this shit so was hoping I could enlist a few more mods to help me with the clean up.

I would prefer to see users that have reached Baboon status and shown maturity.

just PM me and if you are approved as a mod you can help with the following:

  1. make sure threads are under the right topic (ie interview questions should be in the Get a Job forum)

  2. delete spammer comments and report the username to an email I will provide in the PM (ie, anyone who signs up and immediately has links in their comments or signature without providing value to the threads they are commenting in -- sometimes the spammers will also create groups)

Thanks,
Patrick

I deleted as many as I can but I'm on less these days.

no worries man - i appreciate the help. problem is the mods need to be able to block the user and then delete the posts so that we get into less of a battle and have more spamming IPs banned.

so I'm going to be making a small handful of mods admins as well so they can be blocking spammers instead of just deleting their content.

thanks, Patrick

Hey Patrick - shoot me over that email also. I've been deleting a bunch of threads, but don't have the address to report their usernames. Happy to help ban IPs as well if you need it.

yea it seems that i delete ads every day from people with 2 banana points....the ability to get them reported/banned would be great

edit: I mean to ban their IP, not saying that its unimportant

Reality hits you hard, bro...

hey guys, think i just switched on a permission that allows the current Mods to "administer users"...so if you click on a username and go to their profile, do you see an "edit" tab near the top?

If you do, once you click that, you shoudl see an "active" and "block" button. for spammers, please select "block" and save (you might have to delete their password to save it).

...or if you still dont see this as a mod please let me know.

Ususally, best course of action is to first block to spammer so they stop the damage. then click on their track tab in their profile so you can quickly open all the threads they commented in....and delete their comments.

Thanks for your help guys, Patrick

Hey, a little off topic but is there something wrong with the recent posts screen? It hasnt refreshed in the last 2 days...

we cached it to 5 minutes and just dropped that to 1 minute so you shoudl be seeing the most recent threads with comments coming to the top fairly fast....

still not updating? it is for me but want to make sure that is not bc I am an admin....

Thanks, Patrick
