PE Drug Testing
Currently being considered for two associate level positions at KKR and Bain. 3.9 GPA from a target school and all that fun stuff.
And i'm currently in the phase of wondering "Do any of these two firms drug test" (oh yes, another "do they drug test?") forum.
Anyone have a serious answer? Whats the culture generally like in PE in regards to drug testing?
wtf ... your an associate and still asking this question
If he's being considered for an associate position at one of these places, that likely means he/she is ~23-24. Not exactly the worst thing to be involved in at that age...
News Flash --- EVERY PLACE DRUG TESTS
I literally cannot believe that this question is being asked. If you are getting high then do a google search. You can find out how long it stays in you're system, what to take to get it out, etc. You are trying to get a job paying 6 figures and you cannot stop doing whatever for a months time? Literally cannot believe shit like this is asked.
THANK GOD.
Really, the answer is pretty fucking moot: just lay off whatever you do until you get the job and it won't be a problem.
DRUG TEST AREN'T DRUG TESTS -- THEY'RE STUPIDITY TESTS
haha, give the guy a break. Mr roommate had an internship with Apple and Steve Jobs walks in the first day and asks him if has ever done acid. he says no, then Jobs tells him "thats too bad, because it was the single greatest and mind opening experience I have ever had." To answer this guys question, i dont think they would because it wouldn't make sense since whatever he is smoking/snorting obviously hasn't effected his ability to be highly successful. It's different at an analyst level because the analyst hasn't proven himself in the real world, but this guy already has. If they do though, there are several masking agents you cant take and they work. Trust me I know, I was an athlete that got tested several times every year and everyone in a while I would have to use a detox. They worked everytime, although Im not sure I would risk and associate position on it.
I've done some research on it and do not plan to smoke for the next 3 weeks. If tested, I'd be probably doing it in over a month. An associate position is not worth the risk.
At the same time, I am looking for some peace of mind. I have spent almost 3 years at a BB. I am used to the long hours because that's how I studied and got a 3.9 gpa in mech. engineering and finance. I don't want to have it thrown away.
You're either not real or an incredible idiot. How many people are there that were at a BB for 3 years, got 3.9 in mech E and finance and are interviewing at KKR and Bain.
Just goes to show how drugs permeate all levels of society.
Yo, sorry for being a dick with the comment, but this is common sense. We have a thread going on about repetitive questions and common sense and this is one of them. Assume every place will drug test and just knock off whatever you are doing for the appropriate time.
Good luck and congrats!
You guys, you're smarter than this. A guy who could get multiple megafund interviews isn't dumb enough to post identifiable info. The fact that he released a second set of identifiable info in his reply sealed it. Troll (and nicely executed).

Do most MM PE firms (say, 20-40 professionals, $500MM-$2B) perform drug tests prior to hiring? Any member experiences would be helpful.
Prob not. Just background checks. Lay off the drugs though anyway
My fund was that size and there was no test.
The biggest stoner I know went to HBS. I guess if you can handle your shit then who cares.
PE Manager - No Drug Test? Is random ever possible? (Originally Posted: 10/16/2011)
I have been through all the DT topics on this site, am not here for a lecture... I am not a big drinker but a casual smoker and I try to be overly prepared for all potential situations, extremely cautious and at times paranoid.
Recently joined a Euro based PE fund. I have been clean as a whistle for a very long time, in preparation for the test and was surprised that there was no pre-employment DT.
My background check has been completed and I am still in an initial "probation" period, which is over soon. I love the company and intend to stay here long term. From my research and speaking to others in the industry it does not appear that a random test would ever happen. I am still cautious and hesitant, am I just being paranoid?
Anyone have any experiences with PE funds not engaging in pre employment testing then throwing a random one at you down the line? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks guys
probably not, but don't smoke until your probation in over
thanks CDO...thats exactly what my plan is. No sense in jumping the gun early, I won't even enjoy it.
Drug tests at PE funds (Originally Posted: 08/13/2009)
Do PE funds do drug tests? If so, when do they occur? Do they do them during interviews or close to the start date? I know some of my fellow monkeys out there love smokin' that sticky icky icky.
Thanks in advance for any solid answers.
I am pretty sure they do drug test, one of my friends has taken one. Not sure when though. Good luck!
I didn't get tested.
