Boutique, First Year Analyst Comp Rates? Need help negotiating
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of negotiating offers at 3 boutique, middle-market IB firms, and I'm looking for some insight into what others are receiving for similar placements. Two of the firms are in NYC and one is in Boston.
I don't want to push too hard, but I know I have leverage with two of the firms (wanting me to commit before January). I'm heading back for my final meetings with the partners at all three firms in early December, and It will definitely help knowing what others are receiving.
Anecdotally, I'm hearing a lot of numbers being thrown around the $60-65k range with limited bonuses for boutique, middle-market firms. Your input would be much appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time!

I had an offer for $70+10+ street bonus at a small, high volume MM boutique in NYC.
I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing.
Nice. Was there much
Nice. Was there much negotiating or did they have a firm number right out of the gate?
Also, where are you thinking of living? I lived in Union Sq over the summer and loved it, but I'm not sure I'm wiling to drop 1500-2000 a month full time. Loved Brooklyn so I think that's gonna be the first place I start looking if I take this offer. W
i would ask for 85 with 10
i would ask for 85 with 10 sign on
asking for 85 with a 10 sign

bulge4lyf, what firm was that if you don't mind disclosing?
Reputable MMs should be 70k+10k. If it has a bit less deal flow, I am guessing 60k +5-10k relocation
I just got an offer from a MM
I just got an offer from a MM Bank: 70k salary and 7.5k sign on ....... plus performance bonus
Thanks for the comments guys,
Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.
I had an offer for a MM that
I had an offer for a MM that was 70+10 and another that was 65+10.
I have no idea about comp at
I have no idea about comp at these places, and you should obviously negotiate as much as you can, but my advice would be to choose the best firm you can and not the one that offers you 70+10 as opposed to the better one offering you 65+5. At this stage in your career what matters is the experience, not the money... particularly as the difference in money is probably pretty small.
