Investment Banking Brazil
Hi all,
I graduated an ivy 2 years ago with a finance background and a minor in real estate. I've spent the last year and 3 months living in Argentina but seriously looking to get into ibanking in Brazil. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese. Beyond the normal apply on company websites and work your network (which I'm already doing) any suggestions and or contacts to this regard would be really really appreciated!

Be as unrelated to Argentina as you can
Yep this isn't going to help. In all seriousness though, South American business is centered around personal relationships much more than the states so you need to make real connections. Applying on a website will do nothing.
I am interested, too. Subscribed.
I am finishing up an internship at a BB in São Paulo. PM If you want.
^Could you PM me the info? I've heard there's a big talent pool going on in the brazilian IBanking world...
Any chance your still working there? I would love to get some advice if possible. I'm graduating next year from a small LAC and would like to do banking in Brazil.

Hey there,
Excuse me if this question has been answered before but....
I have recently graduated from university in the US, majoring in Economics, as per my preference, I wished to come back to my city of São Paulo, Brazil to stay close to my family and appreciate the current booming market.
How are investment banks in their Latin American division, i.e. Goldman Sachs, B of A Merrill Lynch and etc. Which are better rated and offer the best pay?
(I wish to enter the M&A sector for those wondering.)
Thank you very much.
Why don't you stay in the United States and help the country's economy which educated you. :)
Don't worry, I'm an American citizen, its just that, for a few years I would rather be near my family and begin my career. I have every intention of going back to NY.
I just wished to know a bit more of IB in the latin american sector and work here! Developing the international branch of an American company isn't bad for growth......
This is off-topic but the US has some of the most expensive private education and some of the least friendly immigration policies for skilled labor... not sure if I would expect a strong obligation to stay from most international students.
As for Brazil - CS is very strong as well as local players... BTG Pactual etc.
2 words - BTG Pactual
Taking part in their Trainee 2013 selection! Fingers crossed!
Yes, BTG Pactual has a very bright future. However, Itaú BBA is #1 for M&A this year and has been for a while. I just finished and internship there, feel free to PM me for details
Possibly my corniest post ever on here, but I couldn't help it.

Hey guys,
Apologize in advance if this has been posted I just have not been able to find a good list after searching and going through 10+ pages. I am looking for a list of banks in Brazil, boutiques and MM specifically. If anyone has one or knows where to find one it would be greatly appreciated!
try www.anbid.com
While this is not close to a comprehensive list, it's a least a start. And it shows the top places to be at.

Look at the last page
It is the league table of M&A for 2011
thanks guys it's a good start

I'm looking to obtain an investment banking position in Sao Paulo, Brasil in the coming months. I was wondering if anyone had any contacts in Brazil to whom I could forward my resume and hopefully land an interview. I come from an ivy-level target and my previous internship was on a Credit Derivs trading desk. Also, I speak Portuguese fluently (I was born and lived in Sao Paulo till I was 6). Any thoughts on which bank is currently looking to expand their LatAm sector? I heard Goldman was trying to establish themselves in Brazil, but I'd like to confirm this. Other insight would be appreciated too.
I don't think you would do too badly if you sent your resume in blind(website) or through career services.
jpm has the strongest group.
Read up on Pactual. Involved in something like 75% of all IPOs in Brazil. Such a hot market.
You may also want to look into hedge funds in Brazil. I hear they are pretty strong.
Do you need to know Portuguese to work in Brazil?
Well it would probably go a long way, considering that's what they speak down there.

Don't know if you guys saw this @ bloomberg, but it's a good read for anyone that wants to come to Brazil and work in IB.

Oh and then there's that whole "get your throat slashed by a hopped-up, orphaned, 7 year old street kid because he wants your shoes to sell for $8" . . . other than that, Brazil is a FANTASTIC country! Gimme a break.
You're right, this can, and let's be honest, probably will, happen at any moment to anyone in any part of Brazil.
Brazil reminds me of the Russia of ole' where getting rich was easy and the difficult things was staying alive.
Please note that this is merely my uninformed opinion of both Russia and Brazil, so it's anecdotal at best. Honestly though, they both seem a bit lawless to some extent where your rival might literally kill you.
I had a friend of a friend who was from some South or Central American country and her father was the largest exporter of some product and when my friend went down to visit this girl, they were chauffeured around in fully armored vehicles and had body guards that followed them around everywhere. Shit sounded crazy.
Regards
This view is a little extreme. While Brazil has a lot of work to do in terms of government corruption and violence it's far from the same as Mexico or some of the other South American countries ruled by drug cartels. Especially for finance, where most of the jobs will be in Sao Paulo, not Rio, which tends to be more dangerous.
You definitely have to be more careful than NYC, but if you're street smart, keep a lower profile and stick to the right parts of the city you should be fine.
i hear all that... but im still planning for a 3 month vacation in Rio... have you seen the quality of ass down there? LAWD HAMERCY!!!
Hahaha those armored cars remind me of South Africa during the World Cup
you guys are right, please, please stay out of brazil.
Good place to visit, not to live
All I'm saying is that theres reasons why these places are third world countries and why they stay third world countries. People have such a hard-on for places like brazil and India when there's so many more opportunities in other places that have crazy thing like clean water :). I'd place my life savings in the shadiest deal in a place like Singapore before giving a dime to anyone in piece-of-shit brazil.
first off india is not a third world country....... 2ndly XD brazilian women are so great in bed, and tend to be soo sexy XD
the government in india is one of the most wealthiest in the world.... (they are just corrupt). When the people who create the infrastructure there use shitty material to build buildings, pipes etc. because it is cheaper that is what you get. I agree that it is not fully developed, but it is not a third world country.... here is a link for you to see what the third world countries are TODAY....... And I guess I am not the one who is ignorant. :P Nice try http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_countries_are_third_world_or_developing_…
hahaahaaahaahha lol at living in brazil not good. Yeah, stay the fuck out.

Hi guys,
I am a senior at a Ivy (economics-math) with pretty good stats, including SA at an European investment bank in NYC this summer. However, I am originally from Brazil and wish to return there upon graduation to work in IB in Sao Paulo. Though I do have contacts from my bank there (not that great in Brazil), I wonder if anyone is working there and tell me more about how to break in from a non-Brazilian school, etc.
Thanks!
im surey ou can hunt down alum working down there to help get you a leg in?
I am a brazilian in Brazil, not in IBD but in prop trading though. Nevertheless two of my best friends are IBD analysts so I may have lots of insights on these. Send me a PM with some more specific questions and I would be happy to chat with you.

Hey guys,
I've got an offer for IBD at a big European Bank in Sao Paolo. I know it's not one of the of the top players in the area but they've been in some pretty good deals and I've really liked my team. I was wondering if anyone here is well-versed in comp-related issues for banking in Brazil. I'm about to get the official document with all the figures but really don't know how much I should expect, regarding fixed pay, bonus aspirations, as well as other benefits. Anyone here?
Brazil bankers cleaned up this year, double pay vs. NYC. It was the best place to be. Might not be exactly double but generally something like that. Also no restricted stock and nice cash bonuses.
do you speak Portuguese?
No portuguese, no banana.
