Investment Banking Brazil

Hi all,
I graduated an ivy 2 years ago with a finance background and a minor in real estate. I've spent the last year and 3 months living in Argentina but seriously looking to get into ibanking in Brazil. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese. Beyond the normal apply on company websites and work your network (which I'm already doing) any suggestions and or contacts to this regard would be really really appreciated!

Be as unrelated to Argentina as you can

Yep this isn't going to help. In all seriousness though, South American business is centered around personal relationships much more than the states so you need to make real connections. Applying on a website will do nothing.

My drinkin' problem left today, she packed up all her bags and walked away.

Don't worry, I'm an American citizen, its just that, for a few years I would rather be near my family and begin my career. I have every intention of going back to NY.

I just wished to know a bit more of IB in the latin american sector and work here! Developing the international branch of an American company isn't bad for growth......

Why don't you stay in the United States and help the country's economy which educated you. :)

This is off-topic but the US has some of the most expensive private education and some of the least friendly immigration policies for skilled labor... not sure if I would expect a strong obligation to stay from most international students.

As for Brazil - CS is very strong as well as local players... BTG Pactual etc.

Read up on Pactual. Involved in something like 75% of all IPOs in Brazil. Such a hot market.

Yeah but there's also this: http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2011/12/01/brazil%E2%80%99s-success-%E…

And this: http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/11/30/bankofamerica-brazil-privateba…

Oh and then there's that whole "get your throat slashed by a hopped-up, orphaned, 7 year old street kid because he wants your shoes to sell for $8" . . . other than that, Brazil is a FANTASTIC country! Gimme a break.

You're right, this can, and let's be honest, probably will, happen at any moment to anyone in any part of Brazil.

Brazil reminds me of the Russia of ole' where getting rich was easy and the difficult things was staying alive.

Please note that this is merely my uninformed opinion of both Russia and Brazil, so it's anecdotal at best. Honestly though, they both seem a bit lawless to some extent where your rival might literally kill you.

I had a friend of a friend who was from some South or Central American country and her father was the largest exporter of some product and when my friend went down to visit this girl, they were chauffeured around in fully armored vehicles and had body guards that followed them around everywhere. Shit sounded crazy.

Regards

This view is a little extreme. While Brazil has a lot of work to do in terms of government corruption and violence it's far from the same as Mexico or some of the other South American countries ruled by drug cartels. Especially for finance, where most of the jobs will be in Sao Paulo, not Rio, which tends to be more dangerous.

You definitely have to be more careful than NYC, but if you're street smart, keep a lower profile and stick to the right parts of the city you should be fine.

All I'm saying is that theres reasons why these places are third world countries and why they stay third world countries. People have such a hard-on for places like brazil and India when there's so many more opportunities in other places that have crazy thing like clean water :). I'd place my life savings in the shadiest deal in a place like Singapore before giving a dime to anyone in piece-of-shit brazil.

first off india is not a third world country....... 2ndly XD brazilian women are so great in bed, and tend to be soo sexy XD

I want a lady on the street, but a freak in the bed, Go Bucks!!

India not third world?!?!? You have way too many posts to be troll bait so I must assume you're ignorant. India would benefit the most from just by providing clean water to their population. Then address disease then the abject poverty the infrastructure. From there you might have a nation that is on it's way. Yes, yes, I know you'll point to bangalore and mention outsourcing and the educated populace. But that all stil a relatively small portion of a very large country. There's no way anyone with their eyes open that would claim that India isn't a third world nation. Not hating just calling it what it is.

the government in india is one of the most wealthiest in the world.... (they are just corrupt). When the people who create the infrastructure there use shitty material to build buildings, pipes etc. because it is cheaper that is what you get. I agree that it is not fully developed, but it is not a third world country.... here is a link for you to see what the third world countries are TODAY....... And I guess I am not the one who is ignorant. :P Nice try http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_countries_are_third_world_or_developing_…
