GS IB Data Resources Analyst?
Hey guys, I need some advice. I'm a frequent contributor so I hope you'll at least stop by to say hi.
Any idea what this position entails? Is it Middle or Back office? Any idea on comp and whether it is a good exit from Big 4 Audit? (Position is in SLC)
I know there are some posts on WSO (I use the search frequently) but I still can't seem to find anything definitive on comp or signing bonus or anything like that. Worried it will be straight B.O. comp (42K?) with no signing bonus. Not sure I'd be willing to stop for that.
Also, would it give me any modeling or other experience that I could leverage into IB eventually?
Post the job description, so that we can be more helpful.

@OP: I wouldn't do it, but lets hear from someone more experienced.
I'm guessing this is it? http://www.linkedin.com/jobs2/view/9902836
It reads like being IBD's concierge service
Basically, these guys do bitch work for the IB analysts. Not modeling. Basic stuff that they really, really don't want to do and can farm out to the support team. When I was an analyst we had a team in India for this sort of thing. Say I had a bunch of comps I didn't have time for. I'd send in the request to India ASAP right before I left for home. Come back in the morning, they're sitting in my inbox. Format it a bit and send it over to the associate. Surprised GS has these guys in Salt Lake, but I read over the job description and it's the Mormon version of the India Team. But yeah, you don't want this job. You'd kill yourself. Or at least I would. It's a shitty job. To give you an idea....you just got this email from me at 1am, PST

have to admit this made me laugh...
LOOOOOL, this is eerily accurate.
Agree with other folks, don't go for this job, it's almost certainly a step backwards. I'm guessing it's basically data gathering.
This is a more "glorified" role of basically pulling research and data to support whatever the guys at iBD need vs. formatting a presentation to GS format, which is what I originally thought the position entailed (i.e. Similar to Working in the presentation center at a BB) . When an IB analyst requests something, it will be in a queue, until you get to it. This could include pulling equity research, pulling a PIB together, transcripts, and other random requests which tend to be time sensitive.
This is a support function, it is not even a back office role. You will literally be doing mindless work that others specifically do no want to do and will virtually have no opportunity to move to IBD. I would not recommend this if you're coming from a big 4 accounting firm.
What the heck is the Data Resource Group? (Originally Posted: 04/27/2012)
Just got an interview at a BB Data Resource Group. The description makes it sound like it's Operations, but it's nestled within the IBD.
I understand that this isn't a revenue-generating position, but it seems like it offers good networking opportunities. Thoughts?
• Liaise with IBD deal teams to ensure an exact understanding of requirements and provide concise and focused research via Datastream, SDC, Dealogic, CapIQ etc • Ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner and adhere to quality standards • Develop and maintain relationships with IBD Analysts and Associates across regions • In partnership with Compliance and Banking Technology understand and explain copyright and data usage issues to clients as required.
Bump, anyone? Come on, it's my first post :)

Did you ever discover what this is? Is it ops? Not much information on this group.
total back office support. analysts will send you charts that need to be created or price updated or industry information that needs to be collected and graphed.
