Is Equinox worth it from a networking standpoint? The price difference between Equinox ($175 - $200) and 24 Hour Fitness ($40) is drastic, but if I meet one influential person at Equinox, I'd think its worth it. I'm not saying I'm going to harass people during their workouts. Like any gym, when you're lifting weights or running on the treadmill with the same people, day in and day out, you're bound to strike up conversations. PS: This is Equinox SF, not Equinox NY, if that means anything.

I can't speak for Equinox SF but people generally keep to themselves in the NYC locations. I would definitely not spend the money with networking as the motivation. It is a nice gym, however, and is very clean which is why I took the plunge. Many more effective ways to put your money to work networking.

You're not gonna be able to do too much networking in a gym without annoying people. Go with 24 Hour and network elsewhere

equinox sf has a lot of hot girls.
What I did was buy the two-year unlimited access 24 Hour Fitness pass at Costco for $350 and am planning to join Equinox in about 6 months when I'm already a year into the 24 pass. By then, I'll have amortized the cost per visit for the 24 hour pass down to nearly a buck with a year left on the pass and will continue to go to 24 on all the later nights that Equinox is closed.
PS. I go to the 24 at 100 Cal, you best not mess with me while I'm trynna get my lift on.
I have never networked at the gym. And I use Equinox. You just don't talk at the gym. I think the most I've said in the past year is "Are you done with that [piece of equipment]?".

Gyms are not a good place to network, period.
Thanks for the advice guys. Just for the record, I was NEVER going to go up to people lifting and randomly ask about career guidance and the markets. Perhaps someone asks you for a spot and you help out. This happens coincidentally again next week. The cycle repeats until you eventually learn each others name and make small chit chat because you both walk out the door at the same time, etc. Not common, but I've met a few people at 24 this way. But again, I'll pass on Equinox if this clearly isn't a reality.
