I have the portuguese automatic with blue strap. Hard to justify at the time of purchase, but i've had it for over a year now and still feel good about the purchase.

I just bought the 3714 Chrono-Automatic as well, great piece.

Definitely a watch-guy's watch

It commands respect. Beautifully crafted watches that you could drop off a 50 story building and it would hold up.

My next watch will probably be an IWC.

I love watches and in fact

I love watches and in fact collect them. I have the IWC Pilots watch and it is a rock! it is so well made and great for every day wear.......expensive but in the long run well worth it!

I blew my sign on bonus on a Patek - I love it but will still have the IWC as my everydayer!

$6500 Patek?

Sign-on bonus is 10k... about ~6,500 after taxes, where did you buy a Patek for 6,500?

Hate to be "that guy" but in

Hate to be "that guy" but in the below 3 threads Plus1 has declared the following:

- he interned in M&A at JPM and GS
- is starting at HLHZ training July 20th
- in addition to his 2 internships, he has 1 yr investment banking experience
- he is graduating undergrad summer 2008
- he was accepted into HBS directly out of UG... and turned it down
- received full-time offers from GS, JPM, MS, Nomura, HSBC
- received an offer from HLHZ after a GS guy who knew him from internship moved to HLHZ
- blew his sign-on bonus on a Patek Phillipe
- is on a sports team representing the UK
- has owned and sold his own business

Which could all very well be true, and if so, VERY impressive. However I don't see how you have 2 internships and a year of BB IBD experience when you're graduating this summer and starting at HL in July.

All true pal.
I see how you may be skeptical, however here is the story - I come from a well of family with many connections. start up capital for my own business was easy, I let it run for 2 years and sold it on before going to uni to study Finance.

My finance Degree is 4 years long, and the 3rd year is spent on Industrial Placement i.e. a year in a Financial role. So the sumer after my second year I interned at GS, following this I took up a year long placement in JPM UK M&A, where I spent 9 months off cycle and then fell in with the summer intern class of 2007. After this internship I started back to my Final year at uni, where I Graduated last week.

Hence I have 2 Summer Internships and a years experience in the IBD Industry.

As for my HLHZ choice, a friend moved there into the restructuring team which was appealing seeing the UK economic at that time was starting to decline and has got even worse over the last nine months. And the way I see it - I am better to gain experience in a hot area rather than M&A where it is pretty quiet!

The Patek Phillipe I bought was much more expensive than 6500 dollars, but thats my business and I would rather not share prices.

PS I never claimed to represent the UK at any Sport - I have however played Golf for my country i.e the IRISH International Youth team.

it is of no relevance to me whether you believe me or not, I really don't care. But it is in fact all true.....Yes I have good contacts in the Industry and am in the lucky position of having a wealthy family - but that has not affected my performance nor my credibility on the job. Also I think if you saw my Resume as many employers have - both academically and EC wise I stand out! making numerous job offers very likely!!!!!

Elan just to comment - the watch was more expensive than 6500, I was simple saying that my full sign on contributed towards the purchase. Apparently I don't actually own it though, I am merely minding it for the next generation!

Plus1,

I'm a watch enthusiast as well, let me know which Patek you picked up, perhaps the 5127 Calatrava, that's one of my favorite in their 'affordable' (meaning circa 20K, lol) lines.

I also like the PP 5960.

Give me some details, is the PP your daily wearer? If so, wow.

What's the purpose of this? Is Bill Brasky a joke B-list celebrity/movie character I don't know of hence some underlying joke here, or is it really this guy's name?

Don't expose people unless they are truly deserving, flaunting your PP probably doesn't qualify (at least in my book).

Hey Net Worth - mine is a 2008 Calatrava model ref 3520DJ
It is a very plain understated watch but I love that about it. At the minute it is not my everyday watch - I wear it on good occasions and when I fancy a change - but I dont wanna get it all scuffed so early on. I also just picked up a U-Boat Italian watch....you should check them out! very big but really cool.

nice classic choice, you are definately sporting two extreme sizes with the PP and the Uboat. One is a 30MM and the other is like 46MM+.

enjoy them.

right now, i wear an IWC Portuguese Chronograph 3714-38.

Yeah the two extremes make sense to me - I will wear the U Boat 50mm on nights out - casual......Patek is a shirt watch very very slimline and smart for work. :-)

Hopefully, some day I'll join the Patek ranks by owning one of their PP 5960's. Although I get disgusted with the hoarding and flipping that is going on with a number of their better looking offerings. It seems like everyone either want sa 5960, 5980, or 5070. People's styles tend to converge when you give them the opportunity to buy a timeless watch i guess. (although the 5980 is not so timeless imho)

The OP was asking opinions on IWC's.... it was not an open invitation to start stroking each other's genitals.

Plus1- Your explanation seems pretty plausible. You have an IWC? Cool. You like it. Awesome. You have Patek you wear on special occasions... impressive.

Its just a pathetic attempt by both of you to fondle each other's egos.
