hey guys,

Career Resources
i know of a few circumstances where this has happened, but it is VERY rare. really the only chance you have other than OCR is through networking. the sheer amount of candidates that they get from OCR and networking would leave very few, if any, spots left for people just applying online.
non ocr recruiting: oxymoron? (Originally Posted: 10/08/2011)
hey,
does non ocr recruiting exist? is there any merit in applying online to firms. I go to a target but we only have the big 3 this year. Together they may higher 10-15 kids so it would be good to have more options.
thanks

I'm curious as to how ford, gm and Chrysler relate to a job in investment banking. Also, this question has been answered a million times.
Automakers and banks both tend to get bailed out. Boom.
may higher? lol

How to get jobs at firms not part of OCR (Originally Posted: 10/08/2012)
Hi. I currently attend the University of Chicago. I know for a fact that Goldman, JPM, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and Credit Suisse recruit at UChicago. With consulting, I also know that BCG and Bain are part of OCR also.
McKinsey and Deutsche Bank do not for whatever reason, but after looking at our employment statistics upon graduation, it appears that a fair number of students also place into those firms. I know that OCR substantially helps your chances, as you can make a good impression upon recruiters in person.
How would one go about networking to get jobs at those firms without appearing aggressive and overly needy? Any good anecdotes to back this up? Let's assume that I have negligible family connections at all the major banking or consulting firms.
Everyone is going to tell you the same thing - network.
The only other I advice I could give would be to crash OCR at another school that DB and McK recruit at.
So, if I visited family in Philly or something like that, could I go to a DB or Mckinsey info session at Wharton and drop off my resume there? That seems kinda far fetched.
Also, I have a good family friend who works at BoA ML. I've known him since I was 5-6 yrs old. He's a managing director there. How can I use that to my advantage?
It has been done before. There are a bunch of threads of people who have tried it, some of whom have been successful. It definitely takes some balls, but there is no harm in trying.
Call him and ask for some career advice. Tell him you are interested in doing banking and would love to hear about what made him successful. At the end of the call ask if there is anyone else you should talk to or, depending on how the call goes, see if he can pass your resume along. This is another thing you should do some searching for. Networking 101, and it's way easier when you already have a connection with the person.
