No AC is brutal.
Other than that was fine - was not home really other than to sleep.
Woah, do the NYU dorms not have air conditioning?
he's wrong theres only one dorm that doesnt have AC, Rubin. And its also the cheapest one
Stayed in Carlyle with 3 other people. ACs worked fine, no problems with pests, cost was reasonable. Mainly used the place to sleep. A nice benefit is that you get free access to the NYU gym (Palladium) which is only a couple of blocks away. Downside of staying in Carlyle is dealing with the Union Square rush. Would definiately recommend staying there during your summer stint and avoid the hassle of finding a room on Craiglists or something like that.
Stayed in Brittany with 4 other people. Shared one bathroom, but we all talked with each other to make it work. A/C was never a problem for me. Free Palladium gym access, and meal credits (personally I think NYU's food is fire).
I would definitely recommend - I liked Brittany for its proximity to St. Mark's and the Union Sq. station. Also...90% of the girls that I saw in the hall were pretty damn hot...if you're into that (I'd go downstairs and shamelessly hit on girls while they all gathered to watch the Bachelor LOL). I never had a problem with noise, but I might have had a different situation from other people.
Stayed in Brittany this past summer -- highly recommend.
Stayed in Palladium in Union Square for 2 summers. Definetly recommend. Suite style with AC. Kitchen, Bathroom, for four people. You also get access to the gym in the building. Great access to the Union Square subway with the N, Q, R, W, L, and 456 line.
Need to be "affiliated" to guarentee that you get placed there but if you take a throw away class with the school of professional studies it ends up being a good deal.
I was in Palladium Hall last summer and I had a positive experience overall. It’s right by Union Square (a major subway stop) which allows you to quickly travel either uptown or downtown.
palladium is superb and has a great sunday brunch.
It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. My roommate was in IBD and I was in a group doing long hours in S&T.... let's just say I had to use a flashlight to get ready at 4.30am when she was trying (and failing) to sleep.
Did anyone have issues getting the building they wanted? Would suck to get a non-A/C place...

I'm tryinig to figure out my preference list for my application to NYU dorms. In which order would you guys put the following three dorms?
Alumni Hall, Coral Towers, Third North.
Thanks.
PS: I didn't include other dorms because they don't have single rooms, or are too far away from Union Square (want to be able to enjoy the area).
Alumni is tops. Single room (with a suitemate). Close to the 6 at Astor Place and a few blocks from Union Square.
right on corner of 14th and 3rd...really close to u-hall and palladium...right near Union Square park and 2 minute walk to Union Square Subway station..i had a huge room with a bathroom in the actual room as part of a suite...great place
id to 3rd north 2nd and alumni 3rd as alumni isnt really in union square
so we got one vote for alumni and one for coral, anybody else?
Do any of these "not" look like dorms....all the pix I looked at really have the dorm, not the apt, feel.
oops
you want 3rd north for the summer. closer to everything you want.
Coral is by union square so 4,5,6 is right there Alumni is single and is by 6 on astor place 3rd north = not an option for you
coming from NYU, i'd definitely recommend Coral as the best possible place you can get. Alumni singles are tiny as hell and you'd probably like Union Square area better.

Any information on Water St. or Lafayette?
Water street is MUCH nicer in terms of building/room/view, but Lafayette is in chinatown so its good for some cheap good eats. Water is like a 10 minute walk to the A/C and Laf is like a 5 min walk to 4/5/6/R/N/Q/W
Carylele is really nice, but you have to share a room. The location is amazing
The pictures online of the Broome St. place looked nice, how are they?
has big rooms but is kinda gross and in china town
Is Water Street good for 4 World Financial Center? i.e. proximity, walking distance?
Water Street's rooms are huge. I was their last year and I could not believe how much space I had.
About a 10 min walk. However, on the weekends and at night especially it will be a deserted walk past ground zero and through the other small streets of lower Manhattan. The Water St. dorms are amazing however.
are the stores around the water st. dorm open on the weekend (for food & dry cleaning etc.)?

I have a single in the second street dorm. How is the dorm in general? Surrounding area? Nightlife?
Thanks
how about rubin hall? aside from no AC
got a shared bedroom in the coral... damn.
NYU dorms are dorms, pretty in line with dorms at any other college. Night life is great, you're in NYC. If you're a college kid then your first stop should probably be Bleecker St.
false. st. mark's should be your first stop.
Got alumni hall, good?
Do you guys know if there is still an opportunity to get housing or is it all filled up?
Well, whatever. You're there for 10 weeks. Do some damage.
NYU Dorm SA Question (Originally Posted: 02/25/2014)
Honestly not sure what the appropriate forum is for this but I have a question about the NYU dorms. I'll be working at a BB in midtown this summer and my 2 prospective roommates are at Big 4 shops. For some reason they want to live at the Union Square building but I would much prefer an apartment-style place where we each get our own bedroom. Can anyone explain why people like Union Square so much? I'm not from anywhere near the City.
Union Square is very lively, espeically during the summer. To the west, you walk a few blocks and you're basically where all the clubs are. To the east, you can go to East Village where a bunch of bars are. Good logistics because a lot of subway lines stop in or very close to Union Square. Tons of hot girls too (models just walking around since agencies arent too far away)
I'll never understand the logic of wanting to live near clubs/bars. Everything in NYC is literally a subway stop or a 10 minute cab ride away so why live near all the loud, obnoxious bars when you can live in a nice area (preferably closer to work) and just take a quick cab to the club/bar.
You can pick your dorm this year? Last year you could only specify the type of dorm you wanted (double, triple, single, AC, etc.).
had a friend who lived in the NYU dorms if you're at all a type who likes quiet- dont do it
NYU Housing can shove it (Originally Posted: 03/09/2008)
I just saw my housing assignment on the website. Requested singles...a/c or not, and I got a double/triple.
What should I do?
how do you view your housing assignment?? whats the url?
go to like "applying" and then check application status
not much you can do. If memory serves you can still get your money back if you want from NYU at this point. You can then go search for your own place, but singles for a reasonable price are really hard to find. From what I have been told, NYU doesn't have very many singles to offer, they just don't advertise that fact.
I don't think anyone that does not attend NYU got a single this year. You just have to hope the people you are assigned to live with are not too poor.
what are the alternatives?
craigslist
cardboard box on the corner of 54th and park ave
Seriously? Dude suck it up and take the double / triple. Stop whining on a public forum. Jesus Christ you'll never be there and some social interaction would clearly do you some good.
That's why it's called a request. I'm sure they did their best to accomodate everyone, and there weren't enough singles to go around.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP XD
i don't believe i ever wrote down my nyu id number. how do we go about finding that out so i can check my application status?
Ur a huge whiner...why did you pick NYU housing if you knew there was this risk?
What about Columbia Housing? Yeah its Uptown but theres a convenient subway stop.
I know Fordham also does summer housing, but you have to do some school credit there i think.
There's also the School for Visual Arts. Otherwise, suck it up. I was a banking summer, lived in a room with 2 traders who were waking up and leaving about an hour and a half after I got home every day, and I survived.
And who cares if they're poor? Not like you're going to pimp out your pad for all of 10 weeks to spend all your non-existent free time at, and you don't have to worry about collecting the rent from them.
If they're poor, they are more likely to do drugs in the room, urinate on the toilet seat, play loud music at night, etc.
OMEGA THATS IT, I HAVE KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT BUT NO LONGER. THAT COMMENT IS SO STEREOTYPICAL AND UNFAIR JUDGING PEOPLE BASED ON HOW MUCH MONEY THEY HAVE. THERE IS A REASON YOU DO NOT HAVE AN OFFER YET, DOUCHEBAG!
Below is some more of your silly banter i have dealt with unspoken
"I just don't like being led on by secretaries in HR. The woman asked me absolutely nothing technical during the interview and seemed very positive following it, so I don't know how she can decide who to move on.
She called me last evening saying: Hi, this is --- from Citi, do you have a moment to speak, then finally told me that I had been dinged. Too bad I don't have connections at this bank or I wouldn't tolerate HR bullshit.
Why would a bank hire candidates based on whether a secretary likes their personalities?
But isn't the equivalent of taking my maid and asking her to hire ibankers? Actually, I think my maid makes more..."
You may be able to buy a maid, but you cant buy class and that is obvious because you have none!
love it how I simply asked what else is available in manhattan and people jumped down my throat.
I think it's a tense time for everyone on the board, what with FT, SA and the economy as a whole looking like shit...
check your email for the confirmation number they sent you when you paid the down payment... i just checked and it says my app is still waiting to be processed... wtf?
i got a union square dorm.........but wtf they put me down as female haha
if they put you with roommates that could work out really really really good for you
Congratulations you have been fucked in the ass by NYU summer housing. You have been assigned a non air conditioned double tripple where you will be permitted to sweat your balls off.
Yeah fuck that.
sa4hire, you have a pm
I am an NYU student who lived in summer housing two years ago. One of my roommates had an internship at NYMEX. After three weeks or so he got a single at 26th street.
Does NYU Water Street dorm have wireless internet? (Originally Posted: 05/24/2008)
Normally I'd just call the facility and ask them, but I'm moving in this weekend, and they won't be open before I make the move. The website tells me that there's a "wireless lab", but doesn't mention anything about the rooms. I want to know whether I should bring a wireless router.
Looks like no.
http://www.nyu.edu/summer/housing/residents_livinginnyuhousing_internet…
no wireless in dorms, but like you said there's a computer lab that has it
there's no wireless supplied by nyu during the summer months, however i lived on the 6th floor (somewhere around there) and was able to "borrow" wireless from various people in the three big skyscraper apartment complexes on the sides of teh building.
Anyone know which NYU housing building MS blocks off for their interns? (Originally Posted: 03/04/2013)
They gave me a group code, so I can either use it and live around a bunch of MS people, or not use it and be placed randomly.
The summer is the only time when NYU actually has smart people.
I recommend getting your own place in mid-town or something though.
LOL it's that AM kid who goes to Columbia - chip on your shoulder must be throbbing eh ?
Any other insight?
Welp, I dun goofed and went with the group code to live in wherever MS reserved. Then later I found out it was one of the shittier apartments in a shitty location. So now I'm stuck in the Lafayette apartments, instead of having a chance at the nicer Union Square apartments.
NYU Housing Question (Originally Posted: 03/12/2014)
If I submitted an application for NYU housing and only listed single room options as preferences, will I not be given any housing if all single rooms are taken, or will I be given a shared room even though I didn't list it as a preference?
If I do not get NYU housing, is the $500 application fee refundable?
Thanks
If you only preferenced single rooms and there are not any available you will not be placed. If that's the case your $500 deposit is refunded. If you've already applied you should get a single room though.
I applied while there were still singles left so hopefully I get one. Thanks for the info!
