Jack Lew - Treasury Secretary

Hey Monkeys,

I haven't come across any threads discussing our new Treasury Secretary: Jack Lew. His confirmation was pretty tumultuous, but nowhere near as bad as Hagel's.

What do you guys think? Better or worse than Geithner - or just more of the same K-Street revolving door?

Hard to say whether he will be better or worse...feel more comfortable phrasing it as he will be equally as bad if not worse.

"They are all former investment bankers that were laid off in the economic collapse that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have no marketable skills, but by God they work hard."

I heard a good theory which is that Hagel was a distraction to get the neocons' (ie essentially all of GOP) panties in a wad so Jack Lew, the true P.O.S. nominee, could squeak through. Regardless, I hope the "Squiggles" catches on like Turbotax Timmy did.

True or not, this is what I hate the most about politicians. They act like they can only focus on one thing at a time.

I can always trust you to provide the conservative POV. And by "liberals" I mean a dozen or so comments posted on the NYT comment section. But let's try and keep this civil, okay?

Listen, whoever Obumbles chooses, it doesn't matter. Obama will fuck it up. I literally would pay to have all of my media filtered so that I never see, hear or read anything about Obama.

Doubles the debt, rolls out another bankrupting social program and goes after the 2nd American right. Cater on steroids. At least the American people saw how shitty Carter was/is.

Can someone please arrange this so we don't have to sit through any more rants about "Obumbles", or what most of the civilized world refers to as President Obama?

obama is an idiot. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014241278873247313045781937705763336… this article pretty much shows his true side while he goes on Oprah and says hes a wonderful, affable husband and president.

To me that article shows that Obama played the fiscal cliff poker game better than Boehner, and that's about it. Wtf does it have to do with his abilities as a husband or his temperament? Is that really the best you could do?

First you call him an idiot (look out we have a badass on our hands!). Then you link an article that has nothing to do with his supposed lack of intelligence. Then you attack his ability as a husband, which is also unrelated to the article. You're just all over the place buddy.

Sb'ed because someone took a dump on your comment, which is completely valid.

Found this comment fascinating from the article.

"Ironic isn’t it that Republicans behave like Unions? This is the sort of thing they rail about, yet fully intend to shut down the Gov’t and hold entire nation hostage if they have their way."

As a fiscal conservative, I sadly agree. :(

TNA:
Republicans need dig in their heals on the debt ceiling and force Obama to cut entitlements and government spending. Fight every single thing he does.
The division in Washington is killing consumer confidence and investment. Anyone who advocates more extreme partisanship - whether they root for the Republicans or Dems - is fully anti-American and, for lack of a better word, retarded.

To be clear, I am including you in that class of people.

Makes sense. Obama has a knock-down drag-out coming up over the debt ceiling, and he needs someone who is both a beltway guy and loyal. Lew is both.

Not a terrible decision, not a great one.
