Resume Critique - Hard recruiting season

It seems, I've been getting shot in the foot through this recruiting season. It's been a pretty annoying recruiting season and I'm starting to wonder if it's got to do with my resume. Would appreciate any input.

You do realize it's impossible to go from "December 2007 - January 2007" right? That should be Jan 08.

Your bullet points are also too vague -- you built financial models? What kind? Metrics you looked at? Did you build them for a particular deal/project? What project?

And I highly DOUBT that you did any kind of banking-related financial modeling as a branch manager in Ellicott City Maryland.

Your activities are weak -- just listing them doesn't do anything for your resume except take up space. If you're not going to go into detail about it, why bother putting it on there?

you use "performed" too many times, use other words such as constructed, prepared, etc

"techincal" is spelled wrong in the header of the technical/language skills section

no offense dude but you should take a closer look at this for really simple errors before posting on a public forum

otherwise experience/gpa look good, but being at UF puts you at a significant disadvantage

You say what you did, however, you don't mention an outcome? What happened? be specific. For each bullet you have on you resume you should ask "so what?" if you can't answer that question, then you need to re-work that bullet. Goodluck.

English and MS Office? That, to me, reads like proficient in eating and breathing, replace with something more useful.

Also your formatting under the DB rotational seems odd, I'd like it more structured in outline form: DB I. Rotation 1 a. 1... I. Rotation 2 b. 2...

dipset1011:
Why didnt you go back to DB did you exhaust your resources over there? Also it seems you did very little outside of school work, you lack dimension. If i were you apply for masters in finance at princeton right after you graduate and lateral that to a IB position. Florida will not cut it especially in this environment.

I plan to apply to several schools for a masters in finance. Princeton is not easy to get into but I'm looking at a whole spectrum including LSE, oxford, cambridge and a whole bunch of schools in the US.

Crap. I didn't catch the technical part. I can't believe this! I also didn't catch the Dec.2007 - Jan.2008 bit but I checked the other resumes I submitted and it seems I didn't make the same mistake. This may have very well screwed me over throughout the season. It's too late for me to change that school, although in hindsight, I wish I took the transfer. I have a 1450 on the SAT, should I put that on? I made all the aforementioned changes but of course it's all in vain right now. It seems this recruiting season is pretty much over for me so I'm probably going to apply to a target school for a masters in finance.

P.S. Do people who review the resume ding you immediately because of structural/grammatical errors?

Don't put that SAT score on it.

And yes, bad grammar and spelling will easily give us a reason to reject you.

I'd get rid of the award section--- none of them are anything special. You can put that stuff under education, and use the saved space to add some spacing between section titles and the actual text.

I'd say it's pretty good though. I might focus on adding results for your experiences (if there are any) and add how large the budget you managed was for that club.

In regards to "Florida will not cut it," I'd say it's just about networking...

I'd say it looks like you have very little experience and tried to stretch what you have out too much. I'd disagree with SEC on the SAT score - it's nothing to write home about, but it isn't too embarrassing.

Agree on the awards, they don't deserve that title or their own section, file them under education.

Don't use "liaised," that is such a pretentious fricking word

Give languages and technical their own line, you need to look like you know more

As SEC said, you should give a budget figure for the World Org thing

What you've been told above is all pretty good, I'd agree with that and while UF is going to give you problems, it is big enough you should be able to find alumni to help you

jan is abbreviated which doesn't match up with the rest of the dates

your gpa: 3.xx, 3.xx, 4.x (i personally wouldn't bold it; they're good, but i know many finance majors from targets that have around a 3.7)

agree with what's been said, you should quantify your experiences if you can

note to all others any other prospective monkey reading this.... HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARENT RETARDED READ YOUR RESUME OVER AND OVER AGAIN BEFORE YOU SEND IT OUT

indian-banker.... i'm usually a dick, but now i'm just being straight up, you shot yourself in the foot by sending that resume out... when will people finally learn????????

What's most surprising is that I wasn't the only one to proof read it. I gave it to some career resource people and even some traders on the street to see if it was okay and they gave me the thumbs up. I actually got a few interviews this season, with that resume and I'm usually very careful. The technical spelling error was the only one and that was towards the end so I don't think most people even made it to that part when they were screening.
