First Day Attire?
I'm starting on a sales desk shortly at the end of training. I've visited the desk and it was mostly business casual that I saw, but should I still wear a suit on my first day (take the jacket off if need be) or should I just dress business casual? I just don't want to stick out if everyone else will be dressing a certain way.
Just wear a suit. It's your first day so it is very important to make a good first impression. On the second day you can start wearing business casual. If you feel out of place you can always just take the tie off, place your jacket in the closet and unbutton your neck in the afternoon.

Suit is the safest bet, as you can always strip components away until you are business casual. I am guessing this is too late (as it is Monday you probably already went to work) but emailing people at the office is also a good idea. Works especially well if they assigned you a mentor of some sorts, or if you have an open line of dialogue with some of the other group members.
pants first
Starched white shirt (if it's your dads shirt and 2x sizes to big, take it to the tailor and get it fitted for 10 bucks), conservative tie (half windsor for a moderately wide collar, four in hand for button down. Make sure the knot is tigh against the collar, can't stress this enough), navy / charcoal grey suit, leave the Ferragamo / Gucci loafers at home.
Why do people not do this? What gets me the worst is the off center tie knots, absolutely ridiculous.

You mean like four in hand knots? You do realize that different ties are meant to be tied with different knots right...
I would have thought that rich people use butlers and servants to tie their knots, which should then be impeccable (as substandard knots would lead to termination).

I think either option is pretty safe but I figured I'd go ahead and run this by the crowd. What would you prefer to wear on your first day (bulge bracket risk analyst, business casual):
1) Blue shirt with dark navy trousers
2) White shirt with charcoal gray pinstripe trousers
Both with simple black leather belt and cap-toe shoes.
Or option:
3) Blue shirt with white collar, gold cuff links, suspenders with dollar signs, brown/gold windowpane trousers with brown gator skin belt and shoes.
Leaning towards options one or two, what do you like out of those?
Well done but you forgot to add the serious part. See how I was serious but just added a joke, like the mushrooms on a steak? You served me a plate of fucking mushrooms.

On a side note, I would say mushrooms are tied with onions for most common steak topping. Here's were I would put them in terms of prestige:

Does it really matter. Chances are if you wear option A on your first day you will likely wear option B the next, or vice versa, lol.
Both are just fine. Wear which ever one makes you feel more confident...if that makes any sense.

Most likely no. See what everyone else at the office is wearing and dress like them. Trying to overdress as an intern will only make you look like you're trying too hard.
What about on the first day, before I see what everyone is wearing?

Dude it's just the first day better safe than sorry. Take the tie with you in your pocket and if people are wearing one throw it on, if not you're in the clear.

Yes, suit up... perhaps your MD wants to show you around the company and make you meet with others...

I would just follow the dress code as stated. If it says business casual, go business casual. No one really cares but why bother going through the hassle if you don't have to?
Yes but just follow the dress code. Especially on the first day but I throw on a suit everyday and just leave the jacket/tie at my desk when I don't have any meetings. That way you'll be ready if you have to go to anything.
Yes absolutely suit up for the first day. Good to make a first impression as you are introduced around the office. You may also have to take a picture for your ID badge and company internal website.
Suit up man! First impression is crucial!

Tie optional but perhaps recommended since can easily ditch and majority of incoming class be just as nervous hence be wearing a tie

I'd have a tie in your bag just in case, but I wouldn't wear it. If they say business casual they mean no tie. I'd save the tie for client meetings and the day offers get handed out. I'm sure some of the other interns will show up wearing a tie, but why look like you're trying too hard?
